Granted, I'll be much much happier when the forum works more like a forum—no post edit button?! no thread subscriptions?!

Well, the forums aren't the focus of the site, natch.

Either that, or it's a subtle tool for procrastination. No edit button? Looks like you'll have to post again. No subscription feed? Looks like you'll have to hover around the forum for a while, or keep an eye on it in a different tab.

I thought about that too Newf. My problem is just that some of those threads are 'important'. Particularly my regional threads. But you're right. Not that important.

I'm just bummed a bit that I won't be able to make that amazing train ride of San Francisco. Gawd, that sounds amazing.

Don't worry the forums usually do have all those features they just don't get up and running until November, because they reset the forums every year. :P

I kinda want to try it and just give a go at my SF story, but I'd rather focus on my current project. I've already started it (so I'd be cheating) and it's episodic (with each part averaging to about 15 000 words).

Also, my work is rather finicky now. Nothing will sabotage your writing like being asked if you can do a 12 hour shift 90 minutes before you're due to start the shift.

I'm going to try for horrific lab experiment every few pages. I think it'll eventually run out of ideas and it'll be like, "AND THEN THE PETRI DISH HIVE MIND SPRANG OUT FROM THE VENTILATION DUCT! The battle cries of the E. Coli supercolonies echoed down the hallway!"

I had a random idea for a fight on Mount Everest where they cut the top off.

To be honest, that seems like one of those things that takes the Rule of Cool so over the top that it winds up becoming more stupid then anything else.
