Animaniacs

Couldn't find a thread on this so...

A fairly popular old show, Animaniacs focused on an ensemble cast, most prominent the Warner Brothers (and the Warner Sister): Yakko, Wakko, and Dot.

My favourite characters were the Warners and Pinky and the Brain, although Slappy had her charms.

Finally, a place to discuss my fond memories of this show. I never really cared for it back in the day (damn autism), but when I did, I could vividly remember it. I had quite a few of the PC games such as Splat Ball, A Gigantic Adventure and Game Pack. What really got me introduced to it was at the age of 6, when me and my parents went to the local video store to rent tapes. A few of the tapes that were rented out were the 4 Animaniacs VHS tapes (not the 2 singalongs, though.) Not so sure whose decision it was but either I had cool parents or I was wise beyond my times.

I really hope that someday, Teletoon Retro (Canada's answer to Boomerang) will eventually be able to pick up this show so that I can circulate the last 24 episodes because with exception of maybe 7 of them, the remaining episodes not on DVD are literally IMPOSSIBLE to find. It would definitely be a reasonable choice for it to be picked up as they're already airing Batman The Animated Series (before the Hub did, actually) and it would definitely be a better fit for the channel than others right now like King Of the Hill and Power Rangers.

Probably, but I got them too so ah well.

This show was and will always be win! Anyway, the good stuff like this is always scarce while crap like spongebob is everywhere.

I wish they would reair Tiny Toon Adventures and this...

I wish I had cable back when this show was around... it was a work of genius.

I know they air it *sometimes* in Australia, I'm just not sure when. Must sit down with the TV guide and set up to tape it.

I really didn't like the Warner siblings, because they were too obnoxious for me. I much preferred the spin-off series, Pinky and the Brain.

I didn't really like Pinky and Brain, either. Slappy is my favourite.

I think that part of their characterisation was that they were obnoxious.

I always liked the Warners better in the sketches where their victim actually deserved it.

I only really liked the Warners, Pinky and the Brain, Slappy and Minerva Mink, but those were awesome enough to more than make up for the rest of the show, and the first three dominated the whole show, so it's okay.

A shame it couldn't end up in a better note than the sappy Wakko's Wish.

By the way, while everyone hates the Hip Hippos, and Buttons & Mindy and Rita & Runt also have their fair share of detractors, why do I seem to be the only one who dislikes the Goodfeathers? It was an annoying segment with Running Gags that went too long when never being really funny in the first place.

I really liked Wakko's wish, but I consider Star Warners to be the real grand finale for both Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain.

Ah, good old Animaniacs. This has to be one of the best cartoons from the 90's. It was always on when I came home from school. It was a work of genius. Everything from the music to the character was top notch. They sure don't make cartoons like this anymore. My favorite episode would have to be the one where the Warners get bombarded by a couple of annoying survey ladies. And of course, there were the Good Idea, Bad Idea segments:

Fish and pianos are too much alike.

I think I would have liked so see the Warners NOT win. I did like the Betty Boop parody because they ragged on the censors.

I kinda missed most of what people remember fondly about this show. It aired around the time I was kind of on the idea of "Tiny Toons cash-in", but I love good animation and want to support it so I tried to catch it anytime I could. Now I regret not watching more when it was on television, because I never got to appreciate how good it was, especially compared to what aired all the time AFTER that!

I didn't like the Warners and I didn't get any of the jokes when I was young. I made the mistake of telling someone that I didn't like a certain segment, and he would tease me well into the 6th grade (1997 by the way) by quoting parts of said segment.

Now, I still hate the Warners, but I do like Slappy/Skippy and Pinky and the Brain and Minerva Mink. And that's really about it.

What I liked about Slappy was that she was mostly a jerkass but was protective of Skippy. For some reason that's adorable.

I used to really be into this series (and I still like it somewhat), and I think Wakko and Dot were my favorites (they still are). Wakko really was my favorite, mainly because I LOVE his voice. I didn't really like the Goodfeathers much either, Napoleon, probably because I've never seen any of the things they were meant to parody and so I probably just didn't get the jokes (especially the running gag where Pesto would beat up Squit over an innocent remark, I didn't know that was a reference to The Pesci). As for Yakko, I used to hate him because he seemed so annoyingly smug and I HATED the things he said to the chorus girls in his Ghost of Christmas Future song (especially the thing about "let me know when those costumes get heavy") because I thought he was just sexually harassing them (yes I knew what that was as a pre-teen). I'm not really a fan in general of the "perverted guy who thinks all the girls love him" trope since I would be annoyed by someone like that in real life (and thus I don't find it enjoyable in fiction unless the guy gets punished for his arrogance, like with Kuno from Ranma).

And thus I REALLY liked the "All the Words in the English Language" song because I liked that Yakko actually got tired and fainted for once! I was pretty obsessed with it, especially because for awhile I had just seen it once on TV and then almost wasn't sure if it had been a dream because it seemed almost too good to be true. And once I got the sing-a-long that had that song, I would watch it over and over and over again.

Wakko's America is still my favorite, though. I think it's amusing that the one character who doesn't sound American is the one who sings about the states. The Warner's list and educational songs were probably my favorite parts, those songs helped me memorize the state capitals, the order of the presidents and even Yakko's World helped me think of an African country to study for a college class.

Interestingly enough, I'm getting a banner ad here (while I was initially typing this post) for a showing of H.M.S. Pinafore, which was something that was parodied on Animaniacs.

This might go better in the anime crossovers thread (although I might have mentioned it) but what would happen if the Warner kids met Tomo from Azumanga?

I remember when I first heard someone quote the whole "What do you mean I'm funny?" scene, I thought "Hey, that sounds like a Goodfeathers routine! ........Oh."
