Joe thought for a moment. "That's a good question. I doubt we'll have cell service out here, and I don't have a radio or anything. Try to build a fire or something. The smoke will be visible a far way off".

Kyle supposed that was true, and maybe that Joe did not know him because he kept silent, "...Kyle."

He supposed that fire would probably not be a good idea, who knew what kind of people lived around here. Or if they were human, what if they were monsters or horrid creatures...

Joe tried to smile "Nice to meet you Kyle. I'm Joe."

Andy frowned. "Does anyone here actually know how to build a fire?" He looked around "I don't see any stones or flint. Anyone have a lighter?"

I have to get of now.

"My name is Rick." introducing himself to the others. He then began to ponder Andy's words. How would they keep in contact with each other?

Joe fished in his pockets and pulled out a Zippo. "Here" He said, tossing the lighter to Andy. "I'll want that back"

Kyle simply nodded once and kept looking around for some water.

Joe seemed like a nice guy, he pondered why Andy and Joe got along so poorly. If it came to it here, then that animosity might cost them.

Hiking East with Kyle, Joe suddenly stopped in his tracks. "You hear that?" He said quietly to Kyle.

Kyle looked around and became a bit more serious, tensing his muscles to be ready for anything, "...I think so..."

He could feel something was coming...

Joe nodded "I figured as much. Okay, we'll stay cautious. If it gets louder, we'll decide what to do. We don't know what the inhabitants here are like, so I'd prefer to avoid confrontation".

If Kyle had a sword with him, he would not mind a confrontation with any particularly violent locals. Might be exciting, but as they were currently just getting situated, any fight would be better to be avoided.

He nodded at Joe, deciding that if it got louder, then they should probably head back.

Joe looked wearily at the direction the noise was coming from and frowned. "This will complicate matters. I say we continue to look for provisions. What do you think?"

Kyle looked in the direction as well, and said, "Yes, but we should also be cautious."

Joe nodded. "Okay. We'll just keep an eye on the situation" He suddenly began chuckling quietly to himself "Despite all that's happened today, I feel like I fell into Final Fantasy or something".

Kyle smiled a little, that would be wise.

Joe liked games, that also made Kyle enjoy being here to talk to him, so he said in a voice barely above a whisper, "...what if we fell into Drakengard?" It was black humor, mainly because at this point, a world like that was not out of the question.

And it would certainly be worse than Andy's suggestion of hell.

Joe laughed at that. "Strap in kids" he recited from memory "It's gonna get fucking weird".

Kyle chuckled a little, it was probably the first time anyone in his class had heard him laugh normally.

"...I have that game back home."

He continued looking around, half for water, and half for whatever was making that noise. He hoped whatever it was, was not violent. Without a weapon, he was probably helpless.

Joe smiled "So do I. Actually, I just finished it a couple days ago. I started Final Fantasy Five last night. I was gonna play it after the field trip".

Seeing a small hole in the side of a hill, he began walking towards it. "I don't like being in the open. Let's hide out a while."

Kyle replied, "Alright."

A hole in the side of a hill...he had to wonder if it was a bear's den or something.

Joe entered the hole. It was dry, and some old roots were hanging down. However, it wasn't inhabited, to his relief. "Not gonna get any experience points this way, but at least we'll be safe." He whispered.

Anne-Marie groaned as she came to. The fall had knocked her out momentarily, though miraculously her glasses were still intact. As she got her bearings, she thought about what had just happened. One minute she was in a cave chatting with her friend Elise about her father's newest book and then... well, she didn't even know what to call what happened next. Right in front of her eyes, Elise was torn to shreds. People around her started dying or disappearing. She remembered a falling sensation, a sharp pain as she hit the ground, and then nothing. Looking around her, she saw several other students. Good, she wasn't the only survivor. They seemed to be heading towards a hole in the side of a hill. She rushed to catch up with them. "Please wait," she called out to them, "Don't leave me alone out here."

Kyle looked around the hole, thinking on the sound and the world around him.

There seemed to be a lot of old roots, maybe they should be careful down here. They didn't know if some of these roots might be mandrakes or something, or some extension of a man eating plant, or if there was some animal living down there.

He saw someone walking over and looked out at the person. He did not know who that person was, but whatever the noise was, she was going to call its attention to herself.

For now, he just watched her.

Joe looked at Anne-Marie in surprise. "Another survivor! Thank god!" He exclaimed. "Listen, there's something coming. It would be best if we hid out for a while"

Kyle looked at her, she was that girl Anne Marie.

He had a class with her, though they never talked. That much was not surprising.

Went to the hole's wall and sat down, wincing. The pain in his leg was getting worse, but he was trying to hide it.

He looked at Anne-Marie and said "Well, if she lived, perhaps there are others too".
