I need to talk to a Jew to know if something my dad said is offensive.

There is this stupid thing my dad sometimes says about this one cartoon character that I think sounds like it could be considered antisemetic. If you are Jewish pm me and I will tell you what he said so you can decide. If I post it here it will be a Wall of Text and 11 year old nobodies will make fun of me.

As it is, you'll just have to settle for nobodies in their twenties telling you what a stupid idea for a thread this is. If you're genuinely unsure whether something is offensive or not, next time you can hit up any of the fast-moving YF threads and see what people think of it there.

My favorite cartoon is Rockos Modern Life, my dad said Bev Bighead sounds like an old Jewish woman. Was that antisemetic?

Well, the only possibly Jewish stereotype I can see about her is that she has big hair.

Note, I haven't really seen Rocko's Modern Life before, so take it with a grain of salt.

[Not a Jew] but it doesn't sound all that offensive. Not outright Anti-semetic, at any rate. More just... stereotypical? No more anti-semetic than saying that X character sounds gay is homophobic.

Some Jewish neighborhoods are associated with a certain accent. If that's not what he means, I'm at a loss.

It came from the same man who thinks singers are Justa Beaver, The Jone Ass Brothers, Tay-LORD Swift, Go-Mez!, Grace And Chance(With Chance being a dog), either Steve McQueen's daughter or China And McClain!

That sounds more like not knowing or caring about those people than anything intentionally "offensive". Like calling Pokemon 'Pokey-man'. Or, just a joke.

On topic: Doesn't sound particularly anti-Semitic to me. Could be interpreted as simply stating that she fits the stereotype, regardless of the speaker's belief is said stereotype.

Whether or not something is "offensive" is down to an individual. If you need to ask "am I supposed to be offended by this?" then clearly no one was offended.

So... your dad said something that might or not be offensive to jews in private. You head to website filled with arguing people who canät even agree on how to run place to ask if it was or not. Your aim is not to find whenever to be offended or notm but to find out would jews be offended.

Stereotypes about Jews are strange. For example, I really don't get the "nose" one: as far as I can tell, the noses of Jewish people are entirely indistinguishable from those of non-Jewish Europeans...

Comments like that make me want to stand up and shout, "NO! RACIAL AND RELIGIOUS STERYOTYPES ARE WRONG! YOU SHOULDN'T DO THAT! I'M AN AMERICAN!" You know, how they'd protray those kinds of people in high school productions of how one should react to practically harmless comments.
