Your Ratchet & Clank link isn't working. I like the K9 pic.
Fixed.
I like Sarah Jane + K9, if we can't use them for Robot Dog

There's always Twiki◊ from the 80's Buck Rogers TV series.

Ooh, good choice...if we went with him, that would free up the K9 pic for Robot Dog.
That is a really good one.
Here it is loaded into The System:
That's pretty good, but due to the height differences and human likeness it seems more Robot Kid like.
But that's only nitpicking.

Bump: shall I post it, or does anyone have something better?
It's lagged for this long, I'd say go ahead and post it.
I posted it, maybe someone can come up with a better caption.
I played with it some...I think there's another pothole that can go there, but I'm not coming up with one.
Hearing no suggestions, let's lock this up.
I love R2-D2 but while I think he's a great overall example of a Robot Buddy, the standalone image (similar to Companion Cube's) doesn't show a lot of the "Buddy" aspect of the trope. For this trope to be effective, I think we should show at least one non-mechanical compatriot (human or otherwise) to balance things out:
