Rihanna and Drake are case he knows that they can do so much better so it hurts when they sink low and don't live up to it. and Even then He doesn't outright Loathe them.. like say Chicago.
Really a large chunk of that list only works if you take the first time he mentions them as bad... and then ignore all the times he reevaluates his opinion of them later, Which happens fairly frequently.
I'm getting a real, aggressive negative vibe from this

Katy Perry, Robin Thicke, Chris Brown (a LOT), Jason De Rulo, Lady Gaga, One Direction, Kesha, Justin Bieber, Pitbull, Drake, and Rihanna among others.
That's a pretty limited crop of artists he can possibly like he does like considering he claims to love pop music.
Yeah, while he does hate Justin Beiber and Chris Brown and they both still have dedicated followings, they're not nearly as relevant to pop music now as they where a few years ago.
The only artist on that list that Todd out right hates and is currently successful is Jason DeRulo.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianSo basically, Todd likes pop music. He hates bad (possibly subjective depending on how you look at it) pop music. And since Sturgeon's Law applies...
Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Todd is willing to like nearly any artist if they make some good music it seems. Which is a good thing to do, more often than not. Especially when the relevance of the artist to the quality of a song is arguable half of the time for big hits.
I mean, I think he's done the "at least (artist he's been harsh on) does this thing that this song fails to do" line like a dozen times now.

I kind of wish Todd would comment more on EDM, seeing him utterly baffled by it makes for an amusing spectacle on Twitter.
EDM doesn't make the pop charts.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatIt sort of does, in a slightly watered-down form.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Bieber and Chris Brown, yes. But they rarely chart nowadays, that awful "Loyal" song being the exception.
Derulo's only been really successful this year.
He specifically said in his last top 10 that "I don't hate One Direction anymore."
I don't think he hates Thicke as much as just thinks he doesn't have much charisma (he kind of defended Thicke on Twitter while Thicke was doing his AMA).
Kesha hasn't really charted recently. He deplores Katy Perry's declining quality, but she showed up on each of his first four or so Top 10s, twice on one of them.
He likes Lady Ga Ga, doesn't he? He wasn't a huge fan of "Applause," but he's given positive reviews to several of her songs, like "Just Dance," "Edge of Glory," etc.
He likes Rihanna but thinks she's sacrificing quality for quantity (I mean, look at her album output), and thinks Drake doesn't live up to his potential. "Take Care," with both of them, was not only his favorite song of that year, but his favorite out of all the top 10's he's done, according to his Twitter.
Pitbull is just awful.
Besides all that, there's no rule that you have to consistently like any artist's output to like pop music. And just because something is charting high doesn't make it the best of pop music, just like in any other genre. That's why he does Top 10s every year, to show what he likes in pop music, and it's not like his favorites are all fringe-of-the-chart songs.
Also, as a rebuttal, he has stated that he likes Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Kanye West (on his own songs), fun., and several of those modern one-hit-wonders, like Kings of Leon, Cee-Lo, Neon Trees, etc. among others.
tl;dr - Waxing didn't do research
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987He had the same opinion about the "why you gotta be so rude" bit that my dad did. "That's not really being rude, is it?"
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy."Hm, punchline to this one was a bit limp - that was just crying out for some Hypocritical Humor with a callback to Todd stalking Lupa. (Although with all the drama going on with the TGWTG crowd, I've assumed that there will be no further Lupa appearances, and Todd seems to be lining his character up more with his actual personality.)
What drama?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I'm going to assume he's talking about all the things that happened over twitter shortly before Spoony left the site.

Lupa is actually very keen on crossovers. And she's done videos with everyone (ie. the original founding four) from Chez Apocolpyse. Another Todd video isn't out of the question — though, I grant you, the 'Todd Loves Lupa" gimmick is probably dead at this point.
I'm a skeptical squirrelI think they already sort of ended the joke with Todd's character just kind of losing interest. It was funnier than that, but eh. It's worth noting that the origin of the joke lies in when both of them were on YouTube. They're pretty close friends, if I'm not mistaken.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. The joke ended after Todd's promised date with her, which happened shortly after To Boldly Flee.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987It also killed most of his potential for in-character crossovers with the Nostalgia Chick. Not that it matters in the long run, given their blogs and helping write for each other, and whether or not there are any more romantic comedies starring pop stars.
Does Todd hate misogyny in general? I mean, there has to be a reason for certain things such as how he considers "Blurred Lines" to be mediocre and his hatred of Chris Brown after that incident.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.Considering he's dating the most prominent feminist critic on the site, I'd think he'd kinda have to be against misogyny.
Though there are plenty of reasons beyond the sexism to dislike "Blurred Lines" and Chris Brown.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Just in terms of quality, even. Blurred Lines looks and sounds like it cost 11.50 to make, and it's essentially Robin Thicke negging us for 4 minutes. It's not just misogyny, but unbridled misogyny.
Call it spitting hairs if you wish, but there is a marked difference between the camp misogyny of, say, Whitesnake, and R&B/Hip-Hop lyrics about what it's like to run your own harem. I have no way of proving it, but my suspicion is the industry has gotten too inbred for its own good. The producers push their misogyny and own sexual hang-ups through the artists, and so it resurfaces through the music in weird ways.
I'm a skeptical squirrelTodd strikes me a guy who has enough social awareness to recognize the misogyny that's very common in pop music, but I also get the impression he tries to not to write a song off completely for being sexist. He's also claimed to love a lot of blatantly sexist music.
He gave a lot of other reasons for disliking "Blurred Lines" beyond the rapeiness and he still didn't call it bad, for example.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianHe doesn't like misogyny, but I don't think he goes as far as to let misogyny in a song define its quality. He noted the potential issues with "Treasure," but it was his second favorite song of last year, and gave several reasons besides the sexism for disliking songs like "Blurred Lines" and "Talk Dirty."
Frankly, if you're looking for material to make fun of a pop song about, misogyny is an endless well. Dating the Chick is certainly giving him a better education - his insights have gotten a lot sharper - but that's always been present in his videos, and it's mostly because misogyny and objectification are so ubiquitous in our pop music that it's an easy route he can go when looking for material.
