So we're discussing Nothing Ever Changes In The Story Because Takahashi Is A Hack: The Series, then. Cool.
The status quo is god stuff didn't bother me until after the fourth season.
This is one of my favourite series, and I love the atmosphere, characters and the fantasy elements, the absurdity, the slapstick and the way it handles tropes.
The series even makes it tough for me to pick my favourite sociopath (it's probably either Kuno or Mr Saotome, but it's a tough choice)!
THIS MAKES ME NOSTALGIA
This level of trolling is reasonable for Commander Obvious. What do you think of this, everyone?Anime suffers from filler.
Plus they never got to the big final arc of the manga.
I've only read the few volumes the manga series and have seen the first dozen or so volumes of the anime series. It is fun, though the combination of slapstick and action works better in the anime for me than the manga.
On my list (and yes, I do have one) it is in the "Level 2- Good" Category, alongside Inu Yasha, but doesn't make the "Level 1 - Favorites" category with Negima, DN Angel and Ouran High School Host Club.

An old favorite of mine, and most of the fanfiction I have posted on the internet is related to it.
The big final arc was glorified crap, so it doesn't bother me.
The Herb arc was a much bigger missed oportunity.
I liked the final arc. I wouldn't mind a Final Season similar to what they did with Inuyasha. Though its like 10 years too late.
The 2nd season was the first boxset I ever bought, on VHS no less. I still have it in the closet somewhere.
Come out of the closet, Ranma!
... Sorry.
I think you mean Akane.
Which reminds me, even if I don't watch them all I've still got to watch a few particular episodes in the collections I've got. (Thank you Madman.
Though personally I wished that both the Herb and Saffron arcs had been animated.
I like how after the anime finished you can basically just pick up the manga. This is despite the face that the anime added some episodes. And the tone is almost exactly the same.
The core cast has some of the best attacks too. Also Ryouga needs his own series (the travels of Ryouga) and so does Mousse with his awesome but sometimes impractical hyperspace arsenal. And Ukyo's cooking adventures could be interesting.
Oh well. I suppose it makes sense that Ranma and Akane don't get married in the end (wiggle room in the ending), but I wonder why the series proceeded to immediately subvert one of the sweetest moments of the series to end on a slightly bitter note. Oh well. We know what kind of couple Takahashi writes well (and repeatedly), so I believe they get there in the end.
I have to say that Ranma One Half seems to have generated some of the best Fanfiction I've ever read.
I'll Met By Starlight is amazingly chilling reimaging of the story. Deconstruction indeed.
Even the fanfics with the more bizarre storylines seems to have good writing behind it.
On random note: The theme song for the Anime is one of the few anime theme songs I actually like, even though it really isn't the sort of thing I listen to normally.
My biggest problem with the anime, other than Akane's Bitchification, which they toned down later on, is they made Ranma look more incompetent than he should have been. I remember a particularly bad filler where Ranma and Akane were running in fear from the Hentai Horde... you know, the same Hentai Horde Akane effortlessly pummeled down even before Ranma showed up.
Actually Ranma's was more of a strategist in the Manga. It was good to see him plan ahead rather than just use battle tactics. It added a more interesting aspect to his character.
I don't really understand why they dropped it for the anime.
Also I know hiding Female!Ranma's identity at school was kept up for longer in the Anime, but I think they should have found a better way to do the unmasking... It kinda seems pointless.
And on another note: for some reason Soun also seems concerned with Ranma kissing Akane in that anniversary special. That's different right? I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have a problem with it in the series back in the nineties.
What do you guys think of this new Live Action Thing that recently got announced?
Unless they are willing to put real money into the Wire Fu fight choreography, and have good actors, it will be a disaster.
I don't have a lot of exposure to live action manga adaptations, but so far I haven't been impressed much with the production quality.
On the plus side, finding a Japanese kid to play a Japanese lead character should, at a minimum, work better than having a Japanese girl play a Welsh boy.
Live action series generally suck ass, Negima! Was really bad... The only one I have heard a semi good things about is the Ouran High School Host Club live action and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Is this live action for real, or just a rumor?
And why do they never learn it's a bad idea to do this after so many flops?
Ouran High School Host Club would have done better by going for a slightly more realistic tone to match the format, not including the poorly CGI'd psuedo-Manga Effects, and casting a young child as Honey. Still, I think it is kinda fun and worth watching if you have time to kill.
But don't take my word for it, try it yourself.

Though I've not watched it apparently the live action Great Teacher Onizuka was crazy popular in Japan.
But yes, given the nature of the series I am somewhat worried about this. Will still watch it in the hopes of being pleasantly surprise but my hopes are not high.
I can't really join the complaining about the anime, since I barely saw anything of it, but Ranma 1/2 was, for a quite long time, one of my favorite mangas. It was also one of my first. I still like it quite much, though, but I think now that it went longer than it should have. At least, I could have down without the last arc. At least it's not as bad as Dragon Ball in that regard.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.
(correct me if this series have thread, and no, that this vs Inuyasha thread does not count)
Talk about Ranma One Half here.
I have only one thing to say; This series is crazy, in a good way.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.
