But I'm not sure what order to watch the episodes in. Should I watch it in the original broadcast order or in chronological order?

Also, should I watch the second season along with the first or afterwards?

I'd recommend the broadcast order. It gives more of a sense of closure that way.

But then watch it in chronological because you'll see all those "Oh's!" stuff.

I'll leave this here.

I can't really comment on the broadcast order since I watched it chronologically the first time, so it's pretty much impossible for me to ever actually experience the effect of the broadcast order.

Thanks guys!

Also, I accept the challenge of Endless Eight. Even though I rewatch episodes of stuff all the time anyway.

Even if you give up with watching the entirety of Endless Eight, you should still least watch the "airplane"*

episode as it has a better feel than the other Endless Eight episodes.

Watch it in chronilogical order. The story and characters are easier to "get" that way.

In addition to the two ways mentioned from the link, there's also the option to watch season one in DVD order (chronological order except that episode 00 goes first), and then season 2 in season 2's broadcast order.

I watched it in mostly DVD order(I was going to try for broadcast order, but decided that was too much of a pain before even starting), except I thought episode 0 somehow depended on having watched the rest of the series first(ie, I went in pretty much blind). I think the last chronological episode of the first season made a pretty good ending, myself.

It was okay, but can't really be considered an ending, compared to the broadcast order ending.

If you're going to watch it in chronological order, binge the six Melancholy episodes all at once, then watch the rest of the first season one at a time as you would a slice-of-life show (because that's what it is at that point). Also, you can watch "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina" either first (as it is on the DVD) or in its chronological position. I think it makes a good series opener.

Then just watch the second season however. Except you don't have to watch all of E8. (Though actually I binged E8 all at once and I actually didn't mind it that much, but it did get boring towards the end.)

And then watch Disappearance, I guess.

I guess it is.

DVD order is best in my opinion.

Watch episode 00 first, and after that in chronological order.

IMO chronological order but 00 first but watch 00 again when it comes up in the chronological order

[up]Offtopic: Maybe it the "late" part...tongue

Ontopic: Most people would say Broadcast order since everyone who watched it through subs or any japs who watched the series when it was aired had it that way. And they say it's better.

chronological order's pacing is too slow
broadcast order is better

This level of trolling is reasonable for Commander Obvious. What do you think of this, everyone?

I watched it in chronological order first, but I recommend broadcast order. There's no real reason you have to watch it in chronological order, after all. The main four episodes are all in the proper order and just spaced out.

I watched chronological order. Kinda felt like it ruined it for me.

Even better than Disappearance?!

And for the sake of relevance, I'll just say that you should watch it in it in broadcast order. And that includes watching S2 after. It feels more entertaining. I'm not saying that Haruhi needs a gimmick to be entertaining, but the broadcast order is more... screwy in an entertaining way?

Late to the party, but here a comment for future reference:

Also, should I watch the second season along with the first or afterwards

If one intent to watch chronologically , the so called "second season" should always be watched along the "first season". There is no reason to do otherwise as, chronologically, the new episodes of the second season are all in the between of the "first season" (furthermore, technically, the 'second season', aka 2009 airing, includes the whole 2006 airing on it, all broadcast chronologically).

Similarly, the 'second season' should be watched after the 'broadcast order'. Up to one's decision weather they should watch the whole 2009 airing or just the new episodes. Watching the whole thing would imply watching the older episodes all again, this time in chronological order.

A last addendum: To be truly in 'chronological order', you should read the last Endless Eight (part 8) just after Melancholy VI. If I knew anything of video editing I would make a separated video with this scene myself.
