Not really. In general, pirate parties are very small parties and major parties are not really keen on loosening copyrights and cencorship. I say more likely 40 years, let a generation pass before we can expect these parties to rise high neugh to throw their weight around.
Oh, yes, let's kill copyrights, and watch culture dry up instantly.
Really, Savage, can we stop being cartoonish and come up with a realistic way of fixing the problem?
I am now known as Flyboy.I think it's cool that the PPI is advancing, but I'm not that crazy about the Finnish one. They're currently split between the centre-left libertarians and the right wing libertarians, the latter also inlcuding a mishmash of conspiracy theorists, silver standard enthusiasts, Men's Rights Activists and xenophobes.
the statement above is falseI can come up with a way to solve the problem all right: Decriminalize copyright infringement done by individuals for private use (a presumption of fair use, if you will), and greatly restrict Internet surveillance. Then copyrights can be restricted to their original purpose: Preventing commercial publishers from selling the work of an artist without payin' him/her, not controlling the people's communications.
I'd also cut the copyright term to five or ten years, tops.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.I won't bother contesting your first point.
I would say that it constitutes unlawful seizure of property to take someone's (intellectual) property while they live and do not commit crimes. You can, I assume, sympathize with this idea.
I am now known as Flyboy. Not quite: If I steal your car, you don't have it anymore. If I copy your data, we both have it. The unlawful seizure analogy is deeply flawed.
I (partially, I sysadmin too) write code for a living, and I sure ain't getting paid more than my salary for writing it. Why should I be entitled to live forever off a piece of code I wrote back in the day?
It doesn't make much sense at all: If I'm any good, I'll keep writing useful code and presumably getting paid for it.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.@Usaf/#53 (took to long to gather some links... -.-)
Sure, copyright is the only way to have culture.
Ever heard of Doing It for the Art? There are many excellent non-profit works. And that is ignoring the fact that without copyright, many culturally relevant businesses can still thrive.
I'm not actually a fan of killing copyrights completely, but your argument - somehow - doesn't seem ... realistic.

Pour y voir clair, il suffit souvent de changer la direction de son regard www.xkcd.com/386/I'd say you should be paid like an author of equivaent talent and popularity.
An, yes, they do have the right to do that. I didn't know rights had some arbitrary time limit on them because you don't like them.
Hyperbole, on my part. It would seriously, negatively impact culture output, however.

I am now known as Flyboy.@Doing It for the Art: Dwarf Fortress is fun, but I'd also like a The Witcher 2 once in a while.
"Atheism is the religion whose followers are easiest to troll"^^
You sure? Technically two of the three works I linked are, despite a huge amount of individual work, violating copyright as it currently exists (background music in the case of Wings of Dawn, basic notes for the orchestra). As upholding current copyright would not allow those works to exist, they should vanish?
^
Huge budget projects would have indeed a problem, one of the reasons I wouldn't vote for a complete abolishment. But the current situation ("time since the creation of Micky Mouse" in the USA, "time since the beatles" in Europe) is NEGATIVELY impacting culture in the long term, disallowing usage and discussion of works with cultural relevance. Though not every non-profit work has low production values, Silent Threat: Reborn comes even with excellent voice acting and I think the War in Heaven graphics are certainly not looking ugly - comparing it with the appearance (if you were refering to that with the comparison of Dwarf Fortress to The Witcher) of Dwarf Fortress is a little insulting.
Though the German Pirates don't only have copyright on their agenda, even more important for their success is actually their stand on civil rights, a transparent government and more direct democracy.

Pour y voir clair, il suffit souvent de changer la direction de son regard www.xkcd.com/386/Also Savage Heathen, could you please once again take your "Down with copyright" discussion/rant to a more fitting thread?
Programming and surgery have a lot of things in common: Don't start removing colons until you know what you're doing. No you are wrong! In order to vote for the next parliament, everyone will have to time travel back to 2003!
Uhhh... thanks for fixing my stupid mistake :>
Pour y voir clair, il suffit souvent de changer la direction de son regard www.xkcd.com/386/"In other news, German cars have become fine-tuned to travel at 88 miles per hour, as millions gear up for the next election cycle."
I am now known as Flyboy.I always thought we find use for all the old Opel Manta's. Now we just have to find a way to get flux capacitators trough TÜV (Car Safety Check)...

"You can reply to this Message!"Care to elaborate what you're talking about?
Programming and surgery have a lot of things in common: Don't start removing colons until you know what you're doing.I assume they mean the English version. From what I've seen, everyone hates the German dub.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayOh god....where can I get that???????◊

"You can reply to this Message!"Well, if they start actually pushing for civil rights once elected and get to ask uncomfortable questions to the establishment politicos, their popularity could skyrocket.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.
If this keeps up and spreads throughout Europe, killing copyrights might be feasible in the next 20 years.
You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.
