Yeah. And then you have people like Wheezy and myself, where even if the ENTIRE script is written, it still needs to be drawn.
Read my stories!I'm on the 2nd draft of my novel, so expect seeing it in the next three to five years or so if I persist.
I'll probably see if I can by any Troper's works once they get published.
Whoever said 60%-80% of us won't — I actually think that's pretty generous.
It's probably closer to 90%. (And I've seen a few publish worthy candidates here beyond my own too.)
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."I'd say 95-98%, if that, if we're not counting self-publishing.
Yeah, but I like to be optimistic. Even though I think that the people who won't get published is actually 100%.
Read my stories! Then again it depends on what we mean by published too. Fiction? Perhaps not. But if someone here ends up in journalism or scientific field or whatever they'll probably get articles of theirs published. If someone here gets published and "writes" a book, it'll be their book, but it probably won't actually be written by them. Do these things count?
I am only counting books.
Read my stories!I'll still be optimistic and believe that I'll find a career as a novelist, or at least an author of some sort. As they say, a negative attitude will never get you anywhere in the writing industry.
Neither will blind egotistical optimism. Any extreme is bad.
Read my stories!I know. I know that in this stage of the game, my work is extremely flawed. But I have the belief that with a couple of years or more ahead, there is plenty of time to hone it into a novel that will make my mark on the world.
To the OP question... not much, usually. I can't say I care about most of the premises, but I know that my own pemises usually don't sound interesting, so I avoid having opinions based on them. And there are some ideas that sounded cool and I'd like to read them.
What Crystal Glacia said: the CDTs are a great place to make your mark and impress your fellow tropers. I can think of a few people who'd have my attention if they announced they'd just gotten a publishing deal myself.
I guess I'm the opposite. CDT almost turns me off a bit. I think it's because of how much expospeak happens...
Read my stories!CDT?
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am...Character Development Thread. Like Cantina or Heist.
Word.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. On this forum, we help each other push through problems, revisions, and writer's block. Knowing all that a given troper's work went through and seeing it emerge from the end onto a shelf would really, for me, make it all worthwhile.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."^^^ I don't understand those.
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."This thread gives me a sad. I wasted a year writing, revising, and drawing up a bunch of artwork to self-publish my first novel which will soon be on sale and you guys don't even care?! I think I feel an existential crisis coming on.
I'm kidding. Regardless if I don't sell one book or if you guys don't care, I'm proud of my work.

"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."^^ You did?
"Allah may guide their bullets, but Jesus helps those who aim down the sights."I did. Just gotta approve a proof and everything will be complete. But I didn't mean to say that you all don't matter. Tropes and tropers were integral in the revision process earlier this year.

Edited finished. Something that the author would be proud to showcase to the world.
Of course, if someone is proud enough to showcase their work to the world, they'll probably just want to go publish it instead, making this outcome even rarer. . _ .
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."
