I think that works pretty well. The text doesn't dominate the issue, but enhances the visuals. Seconded.
"You fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science. Common sense would be cheating." - NarbonicA sleeping funny animal does not really seem like empty shell to me.
Please.Look at her eyes. She's not sleeping, her eyes are open but empty (and the eyes are the window to the soul). She's not making an expression. She's not sitting up of her own power. She's not doing ANYTHING. Everything about her and the room she's in is colorless and washed out, and the text adds to confirm that she's an example. What's your specific concern here?

"You fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science. Common sense would be cheating." - NarbonicLooking at the eyes. They looked closed, she looks like she is a sleep, and the entire comic is washed out.
Also. This trope requires movement. They are soulless, not comatose.

Please. Her eyes look open to me. And it's stated an Empty Shell is similar to a catatonic person in at least some of the examples, and catatonics don't move.

"You fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science. Common sense would be cheating." - NarbonicThis trope tends to be catatonia in most cases. This is when the person has no motion, no thought, no heart, no soul. I think you're got it confused with another one.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick"They are this side of a Convenient Coma because there is still something there... they move, talk, eat, sleep, but they have no drive, ambition, or capacity for emotion. Basically, the body is an active biochemical machine, but the part that made him or her alive and human is gone."
Did you see the movie Wall-E?
Please.'In Real Life, the closest term for it is probably "catatonic". However, catatonia is as likely to result from the inability to initiate movement as it is from lack of consciousness; the individual could be anything from fully conscious to nearly comatose, and you could never tell.'
It works as an example because Hollows DO breath, eat, sleep, ect on their own. It's a good picture, even if the article probably should be more specific.

Laconic: Empty Shell Living on the outside, dead on the inside.
Page qoute: somebody talking about their lack of a soul.
It's a good example. Shitty pic.

Please.I don't get why, by your defination, any example of Empty Shell isn't just a mislabled example of an Extreme Doormat or The Soulless.
'Humble, quiet, obedient, stoic; the Extreme Doormat is all of these virtues... and that's all he is. The Extreme Doormat lacks drive, ambition, and even opinions. He probably has awesome combat skills, he'll likely even look incredibly awesome and mysterious as he kicks ass, but much like a Stepford Smiler he is completely hollow inside'

"You fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science. Common sense would be cheating." - NarbonicThe soulless: A person who is immoral due to lacking a soul.
Extreme doormat: They are like this trope with two differences. 1) They are like that just because. 2) They can grow out of it.
Please.Hrm...
I guess the difference is that Extreme Doormats CAN feel emotions, they just don't express it.
We're...not going to be able to find a trope image until Empty Shell is clarified. Should the paragraph about catatonia be removed?

"You fail to grasp the basic principles of mad science. Common sense would be cheating." - NarbonicWell, the pre-existing term Empty Shell is the catatonic version so I think this one might need to wait for a TRS spot to open up.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickClock is set....is there room to make the TRS thread?
Clock's up; locking for inactivity/lack of consensus. No action is to be taken based on this thread.
Empty Shell is lacking an image. I think the third panel of this would work well.
