Really? Because when I read over my other posts, I sound like kind of a douche.

"You have more than enough potential. So tell me what is the one wish that would make your soul gem shine." -Mitt Romney, probablyMore like any 'magic' in the RP is just technology. Nick's illusions are being generated by a machine he's hiding under his clothes or something.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.Sounds good to me.
"You have more than enough potential. So tell me what is the one wish that would make your soul gem shine." -Mitt Romney, probablyThis also allows me to come up with big conspiracies about everything and lots of different possible twists.
So do we have any opinions on the domes protecting cities or instead just teleporters in every one, and some towns deserted because they can't -be- protected.
This would be a great way to start the RP with You All Meet In A Tavern (As in, people all take the teleporter in, find out 'Oh jesus this is a deserted town, not a bustling metropolis. Let me return' but nOPE ONE WAY ONLY.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.Technology that feels like magic?
Well here's my idea. It's an Earth-like planet that used to be thriving, but after some weird shift in the weather or some chaotic apocalypse or what have you, almost everything was laid to waste and you're left with colonies of survivors. That was some significant amount of years ago, and those colonies have turned into countries and society is returning, but you're left with weak governments and anarchy-ruled country sides.
Anyway, the technology used during the thriving times was almost completely lost among the sands. After a long age of chaos, most was broken and the knowledge and skill to build them was lost. Out of various reasons of chance, the technology is now reappearing - archaeologists are coming across them, thieves are stealing them, blueprints are being found and reconstructed, etc. Because this technology is so powerful and works in so many mysterious ways, people pass it off as witchcraft or magic, including the people that use them.
That's my suggestion.
Our characters coming across the same area... Well, I guess it depends on what's all joining. I saw angels, humans, and zombies. Maybe if we saw a list of what we have thus far, we can construct something. So far I'm not totally sure what I want to be, mostly because I don't want to stick out as anything weird to get attention.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorThis is Wild West + Anything. Go make anything. It is a hogepodge of everything. There is no 'boring idea' here. If you want to do a steriotypical gunman human with no special powers, then that in itself can be fun for you to do.
Just make your profile, don't be afraid -at all- of us thinking you're weird. I made this RP so anything is possible.
Except magic.
As for your idea, it is a good one and I will file it away. possibly it will become part of a twist, wit everyone going 'OH MY GOD, THE TECHNOLOGY FROM EARTH IS READY TO DESTROY THIS PLANET IF NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT?!'. I won't use this twist, but you know. Your idea will be remembered.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.I'm just not the type of guy that would create totally off-the-wall things. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I've had two Wild West characters before. One was a swordsman, so, no... no swordsmen for me. The other was an insane piano player, but he's more of a villain and needs a villainous group to be under.
I'll think of something, especially once we get a plot going.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorWell we already have a musician assassin. But I'd really like to see your character before the rp starts. Then we have like 5 characters to begin with, once Daltar posts her profile. Then we'll wait.
There's no rush.
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature. When are we going to start, by the way?
"You have more than enough potential. So tell me what is the one wish that would make your soul gem shine." -Mitt Romney, probablyI think it would be good to have a Magic Side and a Science Side, like To Aru Majutsu No Index did.
Like, some actions are done by things made by science, other stuff is done by magical people.
BUT I am not doing a machine or something. It just ruins the feel of the character. I cannot make such a radical adjustment to the feel, without completely changing the vision behind it.

I suppose the magic=technology can work, but that means I have to edit my character's backstory — which shouldn't be as much of a problem as it would have been, if I had explained everything in his bio already, (which also means I don't have to edit the bio at all,) so that's fine.
And yeah, I too am still a bit iffy on having no magic.
See what I mean, its NOT the same. This guy would have to completely change his character just to work with a preference for technology.
edited 16th Sep '11 6:37:51 PM by NickTheSwing
You know, while I could work with 'no magic', I would still prefer at least some magic — and others seem to be having the same idea.

Yeah, I suppose some magic would work for me too.
Then Nick's character is an Unnatural, who can do weird things. It comes natural to him, but it's Unnatural compared to a normal person. Sorted.
This can be done without mentioning magic. We won't have magic, but you can still do whatever you want. If you want to make, say, a Warlock character in the Wild West RP, I would be OK with that.
Then we only have three classifications for people. Everyone has their own individual established Magic A Is Magic A. But it won't be called magic.
Unnatural (Non-humans) Thunderbird's character, Angel Six, Frankenstein monster.
Human Unnatural (Humans with abilities) Nick's character, kkhohoho's character.
Human (No powers, just pure badass humanity) James Perdition.

"You have more than enough potential. So tell me what is the one wish that would make your soul gem shine." -Mitt Romney, probablyWell I guess I'll just make a character that can fit in most niches. See what happens.
NOT IN USE: Find updated character at post 141.
- Name: Chick Rivers "The Enlightened"
- Age: 34, but has a surprisingly young looking body.
- Gender: Male
- Race: Human
- Appearance: Medium height with long, muscular limbs. Tanned skin. Moss-green eyes and black hair tucked under a red-and-blue bandanna, sometimes a long-rimmed hat. Broad nose and black goatee. Wears a leather coat, the sleeves tightened around his arms via belts. Jean pants covered in sand and dust, pulled him to his knees. Barefoot.
- Personality: Well mannered and typically smiling, yet not easily excited or notably optimistic. Avoids violent conflict with words, but understands when talking won't resolve an issue. A "straight-ahead looker."
- Nationality: (Similar to) American
- Weapons/skills: Self-claimed "Enlightened Martial Artist." He forgoes any and all weapons and fights only with the body the "gods granted him." Agile and quick-thinking enough to dodge even bullets from a distance, despite his claims that guns will kill him. Very strong, due to his "enlightened" status, which gives him a tight control over his body. His token attacks are "Spiritual Waves," which involve putting all his body's power into an attack, so strong that it leaves a visible motion in the air going from his fists into his victim. Boxes off-and-on to earn money.
- History: Rivers doesn't discuss his past openly, but does admit he was a common hoodlum who ran away from his home. After being overtaken by nomadic monks, he studied under them and learned the "enlightened" lifestyle.
- Miscellaneous: Light drinker and smoker.

I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorI guess I can work with that. If my character's backstory is brought up though, 'magic' will play into it. Is it alright if I refer to 'magic' as a 'force', or some-such? (No relation to Star-wars, 'case you were wondering.)
edited 16th Sep '11 7:04:21 PM by kkhohoho
Sounds good. If you're happy with it, then he's accepted. If you read over my James character, do you think maybe your character could be involved with the 'Government' as it were, or if you need some more history, ask me.
Either way, you're accepted, although personally I think you felt a bit restricted, and tried not to do anything. Just clarifying, you know the sky is the limit here, right? We're not going to insult or judge any of your characters.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature. If that's to me, I'm fine with what he is. Being "enlightened" gives him a lot of additional skills that will pop up when needed. You watch One Piece, right? Imagine Kumadori, except more refined. And he can use Roukugan. And he doesn't use his hair.
At worst I could throw in a different character later on.
As for being involved with the government, the most he could probably be is a hired hand. I wouldn't put him in any high-ranking position.

I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorI see what you mean. Is magic the only way for you to describe what happened to him? Would you like another way? Or does he need to have magic? If so, well, say he was affected by an Unnatural, or another category, which can make people younger or older than they like, or want to. Make it a seperate character. Either way, explain it to me more.
If it's spoilerific (As in, origin story), then either send me a PM, or just put it here in spoilers.
Yes I did mean you, sorry. I didn't mean to say 'This character is useless'. OK I see what you mean now by Enlightened. In that case, you're accepted. If that's the case, as hired hand, then OK never mind. Your character is fine as it is.
Now, someone asked when the RP will start. Good question. We will give time for others to get involved, but maybe in 3-4 days at the most? No need to rush this.

Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.Like I said, as a hired hand is about the most you can get. He can be hired under James as a watchdog or something similar, basically just keeping him as a local bounty hunter or hitman.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorIt's fine. Better to wait and let everyone do their own thing.
So anything else about the plot we should think about?
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.
@Bindlestick You're giving ideas and opinions. I did ask for them. I don't know if it's related to you're 'magic is technology' suggestion, but my first idea was that everything 'magic' related would end up being just technology. Some exceptions, such as Angel Six, the Thunderbird in human form, but that comes under 'Enigma', stuff that can't be explained. In fact, that's a good term for people in this RP which aren't human: 'Enigma' or even 'Unnatural'. If they are human, and can do stuff like magic or super abilities, then it's somehow technologically possible.
Too much magic is thrown about in T Vtropes R Ps any way, and look at One Piece. That works well without mentioning magic at all. There's just people who are weird things, can do weird things, and aren't weird things (Normal people).
Also, can I get your profile soon please about the Thunderbird thing Daltar?
In short, there is no magic. Just 'Unnatural' stuff.
By and by, you can make civilians if you want. Normal everyday people. You can take control of NPC if you want.
