@Bindlestick If I may suggest a drawback, to allow the whole 'absorbing lightning and causing destruction with it' than perhaps the sand all around is bad for his body. It gets in everywhere, makes it dry, and he needs LOTS of water to keep his body moist. He's a person who needs water in a -desert-. Either way, just add one more weakness and he's accepted.

[up][up][up]Then it's accepted.

[up][up]It's been maybe two days. We need to build the world now. Calm down.

[up]Good question, let's discuss that now. So, at first we have to decide whether it's set in real world past Wild West (Although in that case, where does all the technology come from?), a seperate planet from Earth that's been stuck in the Wild West (In this case, why?) or just several planets that make up the bulk of this RP (What they are, what inhabits them, etc).

Although it was inspired by some existing Weird West anime/manga, we should try and be creative. So, maybe a mix of everything? Here's something as a springboard:

Although many towns thrive around the planet, the area between them is considered deadly. Sandstorms have been known to last for days, and desert creatures are several times the size they normally are (Scorpions the size of horses, snakes the size of dogs, prairie mutts/jackals that can tear apart a horse in two hits). It is rare to come across the more deadly of them, but they are there.

Plot 1: Each town is surrounded by a special generated field that keeps out the beasts, with only special modes of transport available once a day (Or week, on what we decide).

Plot 2: The only way to get to other towns is via a system of teleports, the only technology remaining from past civilisations. If a beast turns it's attention to a town, it is up to the Government's forces to repel it (Or The Phantom Claw, as it were) to organise protection. This means lots of towns are deserted because no protection can be extended to them.

Either way, I have come up with a plot to bring us all together perhaps? The main characters, if we decide they are a 'party of adventurers', al end up in a deserted town, having mistaken it for a flourishing city (Teleporter or whatever only goes one way, so they're stuck there) and either forced together, or turn on the others.

All of this is malleable, so tell me your ideas.

Thanks. Though, now that I look back, I realise that zombie Abe Lincoln would've been cooler. Eh, whatever.

I've got nothing to contribute right now, though I'll let you know when I have an idea.

Here are some ideas of mine. Firstly, you could have it take place on Earth at the time of the actual Wild West, but in an alternate timeline, where certain aspects of technology were more advanced then they were in the 'real world' at the time, (AKA., The world in which I am currently typing this post,) and where many magical aspects (such as Angel-Cowboys and little boys that are actually old men,) also exist. However, as the world is, it's continuing World-Development path would no doubt be different then the 'real world's' — but that's not too important to the RP.

Another idea is a post-apocalyptic setting; the world was ruined ages ago, by 'Divine Wrath(tm)' (in other worlds, the Lord's Wrath/Divine Intervention/Holy Smiting From the Lord Above,), but since then, it has started to get back on it's feet. However, the state of the world still struggles to get back to where it was previously, and so it's currently back at the mid-late 1800's. The old pre-apocalypse technology still exists however, and those who were able to uncover it have certainly made use of it. Oh, and due to the apocalypse being magical/divine in nature, certain elements from that initial time still exist in our world; various magical forces, which allow for all sorts of crazy things to happen. (Such as Cowboy Angels or little boys that are 99 years old.)

And finally, one other idea is that in the far, far future, man has finally reached out into the stars, and settled on other planets. However, due to space and weight limits on the ships, the colonists only could bring so much with them; they weren't able to properly recreate their way of life as it had been back on Earth, so they had to settle for what they could do with what they had; the lifestyle of the mid 1800's, with the Wild-west lifestyle dominating, particularly since so much of the planet was desert-like. Soon enough though, they were able to make settlements, and settle down, and as the centuries pasesed, the world as it was for the colonists, was the only world their descendants personally knew. However, there was one aspect of their planet they didn't count on; it had certain 'magical' properties, with a great mystery lurking behind them...

And that's all I got for now.

[up]These are all good ideas, but I'm really liking your second one. We could combine some of them?

Yes, humans migrated to another planet, but could not bring everything along with them, except a tiny amount of modern technology. However, before they could import more technology the Earth either lost in contact, or was destroyed, stranding them. As for the 'magical properties' thing it sounds too much like A Wizard Did It, so how about all this stuff happening is not 'magic' as it were, just supernatural phenomenon. The thunderbird in human form is stranded on the planet for some reason, the Frankenstein's monster was made somewhere in the west, the illusions guy uses technology/mirrors or parlour tricks to cause his illusions (By the way, I know Nick copied the 'touch the sword thing' from Bleach and Aizen, but if he wants to do that, alright).

My angel character, I dunno, was probably sent to make sure humanity didn't fuck up a second time, but got drunk, hung over, and forgot. Who knows? But I like your idea. Let's mix them.

I am not sure I like the mundane thing and making it be technology or parlour tricks.

[up]I believe the term 'supernatural' can include magic, as well.wink

There's a difference between having magic and lazily handwaving stuff away by saying it's magic.

Alright for now we won't say what gives everyone powers. We'll ust say they exist, and if someone asks in the RP, people can go 'I just remember being hung near a desert' or 'I was created by someone' or 'I could always do illusions'. We don't need a reason. Does that work? We don't ever have to say.

[up]Well, I suppose that's alright for now. By the way, if we're going with the 'Colonization' route, is it fine if my character is from 'Neo-Japan,', or some such?tongue

[up]You could be from Little Japan, or Mini Tokyo, or some other town that was founded as a tribute to Japan.

Yeah; somewhere down the line, we'd need to come up with something more specific. I don't see why we can't just have magic exist. That's all there is to it; magic exists, the planet has magic properties, people learn to do magic. It's simple, it's effective, and works at the beginning while allowing room for more specification later. How many votes for something like that?

Yeah, I'll go with the "magic exists" option.

We can work out exactly why it exists and how it works later on.

If we say magic exists, then we'll have to come up with rules about how it works, what can be done, etc etc which I personally think is really priority or the point of this RP. Magic is a question mark.

The reason why everyone can be everything in this RP is unknown. A mystery. Maybe your characters can be on a journey to discover why they have these powers/skills? I want freedom as well for any twists later. Your character can call it magic in the RP, as well, if you want. They might end up wrong, they might not.

I'd rather magic not be behind everything though. I liked the Frankenstein monster idea because it's mostly scientist and technology. If everything is just some sort of magic then it's boring.

Still accepting character profiles, as well. This RP is always open for new people

Well, I think a good way to go about it would be to treat magic as a science. Set up rules for what magic can and can't do so it can't just be used as an instant handwave machine.

We just have different preference for this little piece of world building.
