I love Erica Mendez now.
Finally got around to watching all of the newly dubbed episodes available. One thing I really took away from it is the show is really anvilicious, which I attribute to the time period it was written in.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.Sailor Moon Says!
Even without that, it's still moral-heavy as hell. I really don't know why they added that, considering.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.Well, they are creating a faithful dub of an anime that was made in the 90's.
This was always a pretty moral heavy show. It gets a little darker as the seasons go on, but the main characters stay very idealist and positive. And I kind of like that, it's pretty refreshing.
Not like Shojo written today isn't very moral-heavy (two Pretty Cure series down, one half way through the third...)
I saw very little of the original series when it was first on the air, so working my way through it on Hulu now, what I'm surprised at is that the Sailor Guardians get recruited one at a time; they actually went the first seven episodes with just Sailor Moon and Luna. I mean, didn't the original dub theme list off all five? I guess I was expecting everything to be just like Power Rangers...
Of course from what I'm reading about Crystal, the original story may have been more compressed, so it didn't take a dozen monsters-of-the-week for anything new to come up.
I guess I'll have to just keep watching in order to understand what Tuxedo Mask's powers are, if any; like, can he fly, or just jump good?
He's good at jumping, especially when off screen.
Check out my fanfiction!Crystal's Debut Queue is this
- Ami - Episode 2
- Rei - Episode 3
- Makoto - Episode 5
So yeah it'll take less time for the initial 5 to show up than it did in the 90s
, Okay, I fixed it, Don't know why my brain fated like that

Ami and Rei showed up in episodes 2 and 3. The fourth episode had no new character introduction.
Actully it was Ami 2, Rei 3, Makato 5.

You look happy, I can change that if you want. The original manga was monthly, but the anime was weekly, so they had to go with massive amounts of filler. (And some continuity glitches, such as anime Mamoru being a college student instead of a high school student like manga Mamoru.)
Does anyone else actually prefer the old dub? I don't know something about the quality of this new dub feels fandubbish like the audio quality sounds almost monotone. The voices are all kind of generic anime dub female character voices, where as the old dub they all distinctive voices that suited their characters. Then there is the score. I appreciate that they're keeping their promise to be more faithful to the original by retaining the Japanese score, and I know a lot of people really like the Japanese score but other than few pieces here and there it just sounds dated to me, and I'm not liking forward to Sailor Moon S's disco tunes.
Give the voices time. I do think Kate Higgins' performance as Ami did sound generic at first. However, she is improving as of Episode 23. Also, you are stuck with the score.

I find the original dub is enjoyable in a so-bad-it's-good way.
don’t call me nerdy [img][/imgI could do without hearing this song again.
Also I've seen complaints about the boys being voiced by men...
I wasn't feeling it too much at first, but after a few episodes, I decided that Stephanie Sheh fits Usagi better than I initially thought. Same goes for Michelle Ruff as Luna.
It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference. It took me a few episodes to stop hearing Yukari, but I'm enjoying Michelle Ruff as Luna a lot. There's an exasperation to her delivery that makes her seem less like an overbearing nanny and more well-meaning but genuinely kind of out of her depth with the girls' shenanigans (even as compared to the original Japanese voice acting).
Also, Liam O'Brien hamming it up as Nephrite is pretty much my new favorite thing ever.
I don't know how long it's going to take me to stop cracking up over Johnny Yong Bosch as Artemis, though.

I love how Luna just sounds so done with Usagi sometimes. Like "I don't get paid enough for this shish."
Not sure how I feel about Kate Higgins as Ami yet. I'm so used to hearing her play more energetic/sarcastic/bratty characters that hearing her play a gentle bookworm is kinda weird for me.

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.(looks at New Sailor Crystal episode)
Annnnnd once again the badassery of another Inner Sailor Senshi's personality (and other aspects that drew people to them in the original) has been ruined. Rei is a She He-man hater and Makoto's story with her sempai (which is hilarious no matter what angle you look at it) is made into a total sob story.

"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenRei being a man hater was canon in the original manga, and it's fine. I like that aspect.
Rei's man-hating qualities really almost make her a one-note character early on, i feel like. When Makoto gave her spiel about coming to a new school for something other than finding love Rei's all "yeah, who needs men?"
Rei no doubt grows up to be Nyamo:
