Hey hey, guess what fanproject is back?
Has anyone gone out and compared episodes of the new dub to the old one? I think that would make for an interesting study.
There's a project that takes a character (Namely Koan but there are others) and compares the dubbing of that character across companies and even the sub!

On another forum MementoNepenthe did point-by-point comparisons of the dubs of random episodes starting with this post. (I'm not sure how to find each review quickly, only to go page-by-page searching for key words like "in bold"...)

The problem there is it's difficult to make a point-by-point comparison without coming off as picky. Like, a lot of those deductions on both sides feel kind of arbitrary.
I give him cred for admitting it's all opinion-based and never claimed to be non-biased or factual.
That and some of the deductions on the Viz side seem more to do with the episode itself.
It does make me think about localization, something I've had an interest in for a while. On the one hand, some of the Viz dialogue can feel a bit stiff or wordy, but on the other they have a lot of pressure to deliver a fairly faithful translation with defenders and decryers of both. There's that eternal problem of if translation-accuracy needs to be sacrificed for the sake of getting some untranslatable jokes across like the crow thing.
Ideally I think the writing would be improved with a bit less faithfulness to the script without going to the excesses of the original dub. Kind of between a rock and a hard place.
And it's funny how I've seen complaints that Viz's subtitles aren't accurate or literal enough, yet a dub based on them is somehow too literal. But it's the first dub that always makes me think, "How did you manage to make this so much cornier than it already was?"
The Cloverway stuff has a fair share of cheese too. In some spots even more thickly than Dic's. It's like, you have Canadians effecting west American accents with 90s slang in Tokio.
And let's be legit here, the original scripts are pretty gosh darn corny to begin with. It's just how it is.
Well yeah, I consider that a continuation of "the first dub."
What is that supposed to mean? I dont mean this in a mean way, I just didnt get it.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Because they kept picking up from where the dub had left off and using as many of the same voice actors and character names as possible.
Yup. Contrary to popular opinion, they didn't intentionally replace anyone, it's just the same issues with getting a scattered cast back after four years of downtime. Jupiter and Luna's va stayed throughout the entire run from Classic to Super S.
Ah, so you meant to say the old Di C Dub and Cloverway dub are the same because they are incontinuity and share the same actors. It took me a while to get this, because you didnt get that I didnt get you on the most basic level. Sorry Im dumb.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Oooh! A Sailor Moon thread. Sailor Moon actually is what caused me to find this website. Yup. I was searching for theories and stumbled across the WMG page. And it was all downhill from there. But yeah, Sailor Moon is great. Pretty much got me into anime after a bad experience with Pokemon. Favorite version so far is the manga, and favorite arc is Stars.
Man, I hope the dub for S comes out soon. I'm getting tired of waiting. It'll still be a year and a half before Stars is done, but even so.
Crystal, despite its criticism, it's hard to argue the dub cast didn't do a great job with the more serious material. Which is why I'm excited to see what they do with Saturn.
I just can't wait to see what they do with Uranus, mostly because she had the worst voice in the original dub.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.If someone had a higher quality version of this image I would really appreciate it!:

Original dub Chibi/Rinnie voice was the worst I'd argue. Her replacement ironically outshone the entire S cast.
Would Ruling Family Massacre apply to the deaths of both Princess and Queen Serenity (the sole known representatives of their dynasty in their time) in the fall of the Silver Millennium as indirect results of Queen Beryl and Metalia's actions (suicide out of despair and expending her life to reincarnate her daughter, said daughter's beloved, and the Solar System Sailor Soldiers who died in the line of duty, respectively), since Beryl and Metalia were obviously intent on killing them both anyway?

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I feel like while it's technically applicable, it's incidental to the fact that pretty much everybody died and the whole kingdom was destroyed.
I've found out when the first DVD/Blu-Ray of the new S season dub by Viz comes out. It will be on November 15, 2016.
Thanks, it's about damn time!
Do you think they'll stream it ever this time?
Doesn't sound like it. Guess it's not such an attractive option after Hulu forced a paid subscription model. Eh, it's their money going down the drain.
Given S seems to be the fan favorite arc, this should sell fairly nicely.
It's a response to a comment from earlier in the thread.
"Yup. That tasted purple."
