What to do about this bad name: Take 2.: Record Of Loudness War

Record of Loudness War sounds terribly clunky if I actually have to use it's name in conversation. It's stupid to force a weird pun on a pre-exsiting term.

Well, Loudness War is already a redirect, so as long as we agree there's no need to make all the wicks use the full name we've tackled that problem. That said, I don't see a reason to change the name other than the fact that some people don't like the pun.

I've been told it's considered abuse to use any redirects to link to a trope page (other than trivial things like singular/plural or male/female redirects). So since this is not what redirects are for, a rename would be in order.

This is not even a pun, it's just a reference to a show most people haven't heard of and that isn't related to the trope. I like witty trope names, but references aren't witty.

How about that it's pre-exsisting term that's changed in a way that makes our jargon even denser.

For the record, the rename was shot down over half a year ago.

Not saying that means anything on either side, just noting a fact.

9 months ago it had 786 inbounds; now it has 3546. That's pretty good growth—just over 300 per month on average.

The inbound list is here. I browsed through it a bit, and so far I haven't found any that even mentioned Record Of Lodoss War. The majority (by far) of the inbounds are from reddit; the individual link isn't viewable, but I can see that some of them are coming from the Music category (not Anime or Puns or whatnot). I'm And most of the rest that I could see were from music websites, linked by people who probably hadn't even heard of the trope namer.

So while the stats are high and there's probably not much misuse (I guess we could check whether people are misspelling Record Of Lodoss War), I don't think people are linking to it because of the pun, or if they are, the people who don't get it outnumber the people who do. So, if consensus swings that way, I'm comfortable renaming it. Personally, I dislike the current pun.

Notably, Record Of Lodoss War only has 75 inbounds, which seems to support my theory.

Well anyway, I support a rename. The inbound count is high, but I'm pretty sure it's not high because of the reference.

So can someone get a Crowner up with the option to rename to Loudness War?

I like the sound of Loudness War much better, and I don't see what "record" has to do with the trope at all.

It doesn't have anything to do with it. it was a Lame Pun off Record Of Lodoss War which had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual trope.

That's what I figured, I was just trying to see if there was any possible way to justify it. There wasn't.

Well, if you think of "record" as in those ancient things people used before casette tapes...

But, well, they're not relevant nowadays, anyway.

I was asking for a direct Crowner to rename to the redirect, so we.could do it in one voting session, instead of two, which will take a week, minimum.
