This...

I saw the ads from Animetake.com and tried it last December. I have been playing it ever since. It's a cool mecha MMO but has been plagued with connection issues. It's also infamous for a garapon shop for premium items where you can get something awesome or something... not awesome.

Still it's a good game. So I want to discuss...

Quick question: are premium items overly gamebreaking? I mean, I know a few games where cash shop users just own everyone in sight.

Played this for a while, but I didn't like how all the good stuff, some which is essential for many good builds, didn't only had to be bought, but won in a fucking lottery. Another issue would be that, even without the bought stuff, older players always have the More Dakka advantage against newbies, which is discouraging towards those that are still stuck with froglanders. Apart from connection issues, controls are fairly awkward, making melee attacks and even plain platformjumping harder then it should be. There's also weird hotboxes and hitdetection.

Also, there is very little to do when it comes to actual teamwork. I like teamwork. That's why I went to Team Fortress 2 as soon as it went free to play*

.

I did like the concept, though. I liked the idea of making your own robot to suit your tastes. I noticed that the really good players are always the ones that build their bot from complete scratch, rather then putting some minor customisations in a pre-made model, for which I had immense respect. But everything else just made it feel like a poor man's Team Fortress 2, which is funny because Cosmic Break is way more expensive, because everything you want has to be won in a fucking lottery.

[up]Not overly so, but they do have better stats.

For the record I suck at lottery and ended up on the middle of the spectrum when I dished out $500 for the game. Still with a bit of tact you can find that it isn't so bad.

The premium items are balanced if you know how to use/play against it. Consider the Vanguard series of premium bots. They are the ultimate in melee... too bad they can only attack in melee. Air units equipped with any ranged beam weapons pwns them in seconds.

I started playing it but the control had (to my untrained perception) a very precise mix of smoothness and clunkiness that prevented me from being able to do anything effectively. Maybe I could have done better with a gamepad but I've never gotten down to buying one of those.

I tried this game because some fellow Gotcha Force fans said that it reminded them of it.

I have yet to figure out what drugs they were smoking at the time...

Me and /m/ had a blast when the early beta was around.

But eventually it got to the point where people were making overpowered cheapass builds instead of making their own units and it just wasn't fun anymore.

Yeah, Ivis is cheap. Now that Elisalotte, Axer and Lancer appeared though, Ivis went from OP to normal....

But meh... I can still score against them with a Shino.

Well I'm still playing this :p Core Tunes are out now, get a small chance to critical and defense against back attacks. While getting all guard for doing some actions. Interesting stuff.
