No hype for this? Basically a live-action EVA, sounds intriguing. Can't wait to see how it'll turn out.

By the way, it confounds me the lack of giant mecha films in the past years, you think the success of the TF films would greenlit more giant robo ass-kicking films.

I thought this was supposed to be about volcanoes. And besides, Transformers has made the whole mecha genre tired.

Anyway, casting Charlie Day in the lead is possibly one of the most bizarre casting choices in recent memory. It will be strange seeing him in a serious role.

Here's hoping Del Doro and Day are like chocolate and bacon. Sounds like a weird combo of two great stand-alones, but they actually wind up great together.

So, we've got a big-budget film, about a piloted super robots against giant monsters? And it's directed by Guillermo del Toro?

This...this is beautiful. I can't wait to see what the robots look like!

Oh, never mind, here's one now!

Gotta say, I'm glad to see it's not some Bayformer knock-off.

The viral site is up, with a countdown (for the trailer, I presume).

Supposedly, the site has some viral videos, but none is working for me. Weird.

Here's some blueprints of the Jaegers here.

A news report of the Kaiju attack with some really fast glimpses of the monster.

And a secret document and Practice Kaiju warning message for tv.

I'm liking this very much.

The Japanese blueprint (Coyote Tango) even have some sort of shoulder pylonevil grin. Probably a pair of shoulder cannons, I guess? The text is rather small.

Edit: I took a closer look at the Japanese blueprint and it does appear to say "shoulder cannons".

Hell yeah. The "Striker Eureka", stationed at the "Sydney Shatterdome".

God this looks awesome.

The Chinese Jaeger looks like something out of a Buddhist Morrison drug fantasy. One eye, three arms (two normal ones on one side and a megaman one) it's so cool.

Magateic Sword-whips, rocket punches Tesla Fists Nuclear Vortex Turbines, giant chest-mounted lasers, shoulder-mounted Gatling cannons, and a arm-mounted plasma cannon.

So kewl.

[up] Don't forget the Blade Below the Shoulder on the Aussie one.

So...this is basically the live action Eva movie we have all been waiting for right?

Well the script seemed more along of what the film would have to be. Folks just all it Live Action EVA for the same reason any Superhero Deconstruction gets compare to Watchmen. But it will hands own get an Osacr for effects. Betwwen Del Toro, ILM, 3D, and the Pirates of the Caribbean guys shit like "A horrific skein of dozens of viper heads on long sinuous necks erupting from a body like a naked bat" or "Something between a scarab and a bull, with vicious mandibles and long horns like a rhino beetle" and that's just the icebergs tip.

Very Lovecraftian, which makes me wonder why nobody made "Giant Robotsx vs Old Ones" story before outside the shitfest that is Cthulutech

Is this basically Mechas v. Godzillas, or is that just what it looks like?

I'm a fan of del Toro's work (Pan's Labyrinth was a masterpiece), and generally like science fiction, but this seems like something that it would be really easy to have come off looking like a B-movie. I'll be impressed if he makes it work.

As I said the one thing you Don't have to worry about is how it looks. It has the best visual setup for a film I have seen since ... Never.

It wasn't the visuals I was concerned about, but the premise. "Come across as" might have been a better choice of words than "look like".

I'm a little disappointed none of the pilots are named Coop. Other than that though this is the greatest thing I have seen in my entire life.
