I'm still voting for social worker...if for not other reason that it would be nice to have at least one child which doesn't follow the footsteps of his or her parents.
Dear lord...Conan's situation has officially hit the shitter. Amuro Tooru/Bourbon has found out that Akai faked his death and Okiya Subaru is him.
How far has he gone to confirm this theory? He's at Shinichi's house RIGHT NOW and looking at him dead in the face.
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -Mugen... Oh, Crap! does not even begin to describe my reaction — even though, due to me still far from being up to date on this manga (very sporadic and often unintentional "updates", like when I found out about the London confession) — I have no idea what confronting Conan/Shinichi has anything to do with confirming that Akai is indeed alive.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.@Marq FJA
While Conan keeping it secret that he's Shinichi from the Black Organization is a matter of unbelievable importance; Akai staying off their radar would screw over Conan in a number of ways. Subaru Okiya, along with Masumi Sera are the ones outside of Conan's group who have informed him that they're aware of his secret identity. If they die then it makes the Black Organization one more giant step closer to finding out who Conan is. Bourbon already knows of his general public circle of confidantes and the ones that don't make their knowledge of him apparent through deductions is what's keeping him from losing everything.
Also the ripples of Amuro learning that Akai is still alive will be devastating. For one, Kir, AKA Hidemi Hondou will have her cover blown and immediately killed. That plus Conan and the FBI will lose their inside person. If you don't know the significance of her character due to still being far behind allow me elaborate: she was the one who notified the FBI agent Jodie that Bourbon "was on the move".
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenOh crap. Ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapohcraaaaaaap. Not good, not good, NOT GOOD AT ALL!
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I've been following the fan-subbed anime (on which I'm a few seasons behind) and the official English translation mangas rather than the scanlations, but this got my attention.
When are we expecting the next chapter to come out?
@Catbert
The release of the latest chapter is a tad anachronic. Last chapter was 890; the new one from Saturday was 894. We'll most likely see 891,892, and 893 released this week. When that happens we'll then move on to the next Black Organization at full speed. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that(silly me). :P Gosho said we'll see Conan and crew clash with the Black Organization in 2014.
In latest arcs featuring Conan freak out face: anyone else upset to see him lose his shit? I'm more accustomed to seeing Ai Haibara do it; but with Conan my heart shatters a bit.
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -Mugen@ latest chapter
Shit
Okiya Subaru's/Shuichi Akai's trick at faking his death has been revealed by Amuro and is giving him a Sadistic Choice. Either answer honestly about who he is or the currently cornered FBI agents Jodie and. Andre Camel are going to be killed.
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenSo, I visit this page and see everyone freaking out over what I assume is major plot reveals. This results in me feeling out of the loop due to only being 400 episodes in, but I don't want to spoil myself by looking at the hidden text. Oh well, guess that means I should get caught up faster.
Saw latest chapter.
Okiya is not Akai it seems. That, or some other disguise trick is involved
5 Bucks on it being Kudo Sr and the one on TV being...Mama Kudo? Or someone else she dressed up as him? (Maybe a certain Osakan got drafted. Again.))
"You can reply to this Message!"@3 of 4
EDIT: lol yeah I think you're right.

"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenI love Akai's entrance though. That was unexpected but awesome.
"You can reply to this Message!"Yeah. Should've known horror movie appearance of dudes in the back seat of the car applies to Detective Conan too.
I wonder though:
Why does Conan have his bow-tie? Is he speaking to his mom acting as Okiya?

"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenProbably the case. I just noticed that he opened the door took of his mask using his right hand, rather than his left, so most likely the current Okiya is someone else. Voice transmitter is probably in that surgical mask of his - or hers, if it is indeed Yukiko in disguise.
I wonder, if you can fit it down into a choker band or so...why not cover that with make up or some other movie style prosthetic to make it appaear part of the neck in the first place?
"You can reply to this Message!"Actually, I don't think the person disguised as Okiya is limited to just Yukiko. Since Sera discovered Conan's identity a while ago it's possible she disguised herself as Akai.
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenOh wow, today's chapter was a dozy.
The person disguise as Akai was Conan's father. For sure I thought it would be his mother. But the mother was actually disguise as her husband
That was pretty shocking for me anyway.
Looks like 3of4's prediction was spot on. Kudos to you, sir.
....*makes a little "Called it" dance*
"You can reply to this Message!"You know, it just hit me that there's a nearly foolproof way to reveal Kaito Kid's disguise if he ever tries to impersonate Shinichi: Just have Ran ask him a trick question involving the last call between her and Shinichi, one that only the real Shinichi will able to see through and call her out on. (Example: "Didn't I tell you last time you called that you should call me if you're going to show up?" "Oh yeah, I forgot. Sorr—" "Actually, I never told Shinichi that in his last call." "... Oh, Crap!.")
To top it off, the next time he tries the disguise, change the question entirely in such a way that he can't be sure whether she's lying again or telling the truth — or that there's no "yes-no"/"truth-lie" binary to the question. Or alternatively, have Shinichi and Ran agree on a set of subtle code words/phrases that can be easily slipped into a conversation without looking out of place.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.I think I actually read a One-shot manga with such a premise. The female protagonist had this childhood friend she likes, and one day a guy showed up claiming to be her lost crush. She told the guy to prove it by showing his supposed birth-mark on his butt, and when the guy did so, she revealed his hoax because her real childhood friend didn't have such a mark.
It's kinda a common setup to reveal hoaxes, TBH.
Well, if you want story ideas, I think the Ran as friendly neighborhood police officer and Shinichi as her detective husband would be a good one for fan fiction.
