Recommend me some Viking metal.

xD That song is hilarious!!! Too bad it's been subtitled by someone who apparently doesn't know Dutch.

Anyway, I'd recommend Ensiferum, specifically the albums Ensiferum and Victory Songs. Finntroll is another excellent band in this genre - you should check out their album Jaktens Tid. Although they may be a bit too harsh (and hyperactive) for you.

Oh, and I forgot Svartsot. I once heard their album Ravnenes Saga. It's not Ensiferum- or Finntroll-level EPIC, but it's pretty decent stuff. And then there's Forefather, who play "Anglo-Saxon metal" (which, looking at the history of the Germanic peoples, shouldn't be too different).

Quothorn wrote the book on harsh vocals. Try Kiuas or Turisas instead (technically they're pagan metal, not viking metal, but whatevs).

Assuming pagan metal is still supposed to be some kind of folk metal, I wouldn't describe Kiuas as such. Turisas, yes, but they still use harsh vocals, just not exclusively.

Manilla Road - Voyager is about vikings and has clean vocals.

He wrote the book on Black Metal vocals with the albums that preceded those. Once he started doing full-blown Viking Metal he switched to a strained, often off-key singing style.

Frankly I largely agree with her assessment of TV Tropes, but I'm far less butthurt about it than she is (and certainly not to the extent of making a goddamn forum about it)

Well, breaking news, guys. I found out that "Vulgaris Magistralis" isn't originally by Heidevolk. It's a Cover Version of a song by the Dutch rock band Normaal. I actually like the original a lot better - it has a lot more energy.
