Per the discussion on the thread for Kimono Is Traditional, it was decided that Kimono itself needs a new pic, as the current one doesn't show very much of a kimono and is in B&W. Considering the vast number of suggestions that have been made in other kimono threads, to keep from getting overwhelmed we should probably limit individual suggestions to the absolute best of what you've found. Also, I know there are a metric fuckton of good anime/manga pics out there, but personally I'd prefer to see RL pics if possible.

Here's one to get us started.

[up] That a rather fancy version.

I prefer this one.

The other thread brought up the issue that we show a male and female of each, A kimono isnt just for females ya know.

[1]

[2]

Male and Female pics

(Or we can focus on the Obi being tied right so behind them like what the current pic is trying to explain by [3])

Or a collection of girls in various styles [4] [5] [6]

[7] Or a normal japanese house.

  • @ 1 that's a wedding kimono, i.e. a very obsolete style
  • @ 2 that's ok
  • @ 3 your #1 is my previous favourite!

I really prefer the live action ones. I think they show the garment off better.

Is "kimono" even a trope? I understand "Kimonos are traditional", but just "kimono"?! Anyway, I am also in favor of the live action ones.

This isn't a trope. It's a Useful Notes page.

Bump...let's try to get this knocked out.

I quite like this one from post 3. It's simple, you see much of the kimono at 3/4 view, and there's nothing overly distracting about the girl or the background. It's also from a media work, particularly Anime/Manga, which is where most people who come to the Useful Notes page are going to see it in regards to tropes.

Also, the current caption for the current picture is extremely confusing.

I really like [up][up], but for this page I'd really prefer a RL pic. I found some more, including some with both a man and woman: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

[up][up]I'd vote for 2(including both sexes seems like a good idea), but that hairstyle calls too much attention to itself. In light of that, I'm for 1.

Agreed...I'd have to look back at some of the other suggestions to see if I like it better than them, but it's a top contender for now.

Bumping again...if we want to stick with the man + woman pics for this, I can go ahead and set up a crowner and we can get this moving.

I like Katrika's last pic.

Katrika's last pic is a maiko henshin/cosplay, and maiko kimono are pretty different from the modern standard, similarly to wedding kimonos.

The other female ones are yukatas, i.e. wrong garment.
