Wait...the full version's out? That's cool. I was looking at it when it was still in beta. Mind screwy.
First key to interpreting a work: Things mean things.I tried to play it, but I'm so fundamentally unable to understand how the game works that I just can't. The game needs to put a lot more effort into teaching you how to play it than it actually does.
Well, the linear RTS part is not a big problem I think...it's the time window that really needs better explaination...I'm still having problem on thinking on how the events actually propagate...
Give me cute or give me...something?Isn't this the game where you launch an attack 3 minutes ago to destroy the builders of the army that killed you 4 minutes ahead, causing them to cease to exist but they timehop over the waves to avoid being erased from existence? Something like that?
I remember hearing about this back when it was in early-Alpha. I really need to look into picking it up, was interesting back then.
"The fact that your food can be made into makeshift bombs alarms the Hell out of me, Scrye." - CharlatanI've seen a preview vid on Steam. Doesn't look terribly interesting, honestly. I thought they'd do something a bit more special with the time travel powers, but they all basically seem to function like the support powers from Command & Conquer or Company of Heroes. And this might sound trite of me considering that this is an Indie game, but the graphics, voice acting, and combat are all dull with no style or anything to them.
This isn't Archon. (pout)
Jonah FalconThis game... it's surprisingly not as skull breaking as I thought it'd be. Granted, it takes a while to wrap your mind around the concept but past the initial missions, your get the hang of it really quickly. Not to mention, the single player campaign does a phenomenal job of teaching you everything.
The emotions of others can seem like such well guarded mysteries, people 8egin to 8elieve that's how their own emotions should 8e treated. Some major changes that people may not be aware of:
- The game now has a free demo available. It introduces how to deal with time travel reasonably well in my opinion.
- The game now costs 20$ US for two copies.
- Pathfinding is no longer completely stupid, on the current multiplayer maps at least.
- A bug that meant that people needed to download Anklepants font in order to play the games has been fixed.
- Numerous balance fixes have been added, making for a much more even experience in multiplayer.
For those of you that just wanted to see what people think of the game, well, I think it's great. This game has allowed me to transend time. I laugh a the poor blind chronals crawling accross the timeline at a measly 1sec/sec. They think that their armies are mighty, but in truth they were never built. They sometimes think they have map control, but I control the timeline.
...Sorry about that. I seem to have neglected my anti-melodrama medication. What I meant to say is, if you have ever wanted to actually be a time traveler, this is a close as you are ever likely to get.

I heard someone claim this is Dwarf Fortress of 4x games learning curve wise, is that true?
What the hell is this game, anyway?
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.RTS with Time Travel...
Complex as shit, I think...after all, you have to think nonlinearly...

Give me cute or give me...something?It's not nearly that bad. Learning to manage the timeline is reasonably well introduced in the early campaign levels and the demo/tutorial level. The campaign isn't that great at explaining the RTS elements though and the more advanced time shenanigans are only seen in multiplayer.
That said, the community is very friendly to new players. We're always happy to answer questions and give advice. Also you can have fun and learn a lot from just mucking about in matches against the AI on multiplayer or sandbox maps.
Edit: Err.. this was intended as a reply to Spooky Mask.

I never heard of this before...damn it seems so interesting. But trying to read about the mechanics at 6 am is rather confusing

Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning. Why does game have horrible metacritic score? .-. Are most reviews done before release or did reviewers not get it?
The game had several issue on release that have since been fixed (primarily, really bad pathfinding), but reviewers played the game before the fixes went in. It also doesn't have the art budget of most other RTS game, and if I'm honest a fair number of the campaign missions are annoying as hell.
There was also a bunch of grousing about the price for some reason, but that has also gone down since the reviews were written. (Was 30$ US, now 20$ and you get 2 copies)
Thought I should mention that there is a guy that does shoutcasts of games of Achron on Youtube. (link.) You can get a reasonably good idea of what the game is like by watching the videos and some of them contain some really fun examples of how to use time travel.
Please pardon the double post.

Has anyone here played this game?
#Uber Necro
Well, me at least I guess
I did, a bit...didn't play it for ages tho...
Give me cute or give me...something?
Other than quick news release in Touhou thread (which, consider the thread's nature, is quickly swept away), there's no mention of the game in other places...weird, consider that the full version's been released a few days ago...
So...anyone played it yet? The full version?
