... I just got an idea that I'm pretty sure is my brain fighting back against some fics I've read where Kirche is denied any depth by the writer and never gets development. It's not terribly creative.

AU. Kirche is the Void Mage. Louise is a normal mage (I don't know what element to align her with, since her father's water, her mom's wind, her sisters are Earth, and she has a Fiery personality) who isn't cruel in quite the same way as Kirche is to her in the main continuity, but who is still kind of a snotty bitch because of the family rivalry thing; mostly, Louise confines herself to sniffing over Kirche's promiscuity and passive-aggressively commenting on how they shouldn't allow commoners into such a prestigious academy. Tabitha is one of her friends, though most definitely not her best friend; it was Louise who the others tried to trick into fighting Tabi in their first year, so she's friends with the quiet girl out of obligation. Tabitha for her part likes to keep tabs on the tempestuous Vallière because a combination of her familial connections and her tendency to forget to think things through means she's both a useful source of information and entertaining company.

Speaking of promiscuity, without her magical talents Kirche has come to depend even more on her more physical assets to get people to actually talk to her. When she was still at school in Germania this often made her feel better about her situation, but Tristain's values aren't quite as liberal, so lately she just gets called a slut who isn't even good for marriage fodder.

I wouldn't have her summon Saito, because obviously different Void mages need different things from a human familiar. Maybe she should get the Windalfr, since she seems to like getting along with people, even if in a teasing sort of way. What powers does the Heart of God have? The way I've imagined this, Kirche is still pretty Ardent.

Sounds like it might be good, although I've only gotten into this series for the crossover potential.

On the Wings of an Eagle is probably one of the better ones dealing with an Assassin's Creed Crossover. In this case it's Ezio post events in Revalations (and Embers).

Like many others, Unfamiliar quickly jumped onto my "Best Fanfics Ever" list really quick, with On the Wings of an Eagle following shortly after. Seriously, I've never even heard of Zero No Tsukaima before, but it's still been very easy to follow, for 2 reasons: 1) the nature of the crossover means you're starting at the very beginning, which means even if you have no knowledge of the "true" story you can still learn alongside whoever was summoned, and 2)the fics I've read follow Stations of the Canon so religiously that I've been able to learn every character/plot point from the summoning to Foquet's theft of the Staff of Destruction solely through repetition.

Another fic I'd recommend from the fic list is Glory to the Principality of Zero, the crossover with Mobile Suit Gundam. Hell, I'm barely aware of the Gundam mythos, and I'm able to follow this fic, mainly because it mostly revolves around the main character (a Zeku pilot that I'm pretty sure is an OC) being fucking hilarious.

Okay, I've walked across something called "Grimoire Trouble", which is a crossover where the protagonist is not a familiar. Can anyone say if it's worth reading? If not - well, I'll get to be a pioneer (and will post per-chapter reviews)!

Rather than smart, I'd prefer to be wise. It would let me be silly more often.

I am just wondering; is there any non-crossover ZNT fanfic where Louise summons a spec ops commando, like a Navy SEAL, SAS, Spetsnaz, and Gurkha?

For a very large list of snippets that people have written, I point you to the index from the 39 threads that Zn T summonings has had on Spacebattles.

Well, I don't see any non-crossover.

I mean, yeah, there are space marines and whatnots, but they are not what I am looking for.

There's a nameless Gurkha one, I remember. It's really short, though.

Say, if a spec ops commando is summoned, complete with night vision goggles and a skull mask (Yes, it is real), would mages in ZNK think he is just a commoner or some kind of mythical creature? It would be amusing if the students think that Louise summoned Death. [lol]

Congratulations. I just pictured Louise summoning the Reaper from Persona 3.

No love for Emperor of Zero?

It has Louise summoning Napoleon Bonaparte as her familiar shortly after he lost France the first time. And wow this thing is amazing.

Any Napoleonic War nerds reading this are going to get a kick out of certain battles.

Any fans of Henrietta are going to be pissed when he arranges for her death.

I wonder what it says about this show that most the good fanfics take out the main character and ignore the harem aspect.

When I saw the title "Emperor of Zero", I immediately thought it was Lelouch, and was then immediately disappointed. Started reading Unfamiliar - and it is indeed epic - but got distracted around halfway through.

Kinda-maybe on topic, sort of: Between Unfamiliar!Alex and HillOfSwords!Shirou, who wins?

I haven't read Hill Of Swords, but having gone through most of FSN and played through Prototype, I'm going to say that Alex probably wins.

[up][up]It's not really a fair contest. I'd say Unfamiliar!Alex probably has the upper hand/claw/tentacle. As much as a powerhouse Shirou is in Hill of Swords (that I've read) I don't think it's much of a competition as Alex will brush off all but the most deadly of attacks.

Well, Alex certainly has the greater stats, but Shirou has some tricks which can most likely kill him. For instance, Durandal is permitted three miracles per tracing, and somewhere-or-other it's stated that "Cure this disease" is one of them; depending on how that works on Alex, it might lead to anything from Shapeshifter Mode Lock to De-power to Puff of Logic. Similarly, if Gae Bolg's heart-seeking tendencies refer to a literal organ in the chest then it'd be useless against Alex, but if they refer to a metaphorical/conceptual "organ that keeps the creature alive" (and Nasu does love its conceptual weapons) then it might one-hit-kill him. For that matter, Gae Bolg in Striking Death Flight mode has nuke-like output, and so does Excalibur. (I'm pretty sure Alex actually couldn't survive an Excaliblast full-on, though he might well be able to dodge it.) Then there's Black Keys, which could pin Alex in place (negating much of his danger quotient) and which would also do damage to him over and above their physical striking power due to their concept of hating the inhuman. Counterbalancing all this is that Alex can cut through tanks and does like to take people out quickly. The conclusion we reached in another forum is, pretty much, that the first one to attack seriously wins.

I'm on something of an Ice and Fire kick lately, so here are two ideas:

One, for legality, Louise summons Sansa Stark, a girl whose motto is "A lady's armour is courtesy."

Two, Tabitha and Kirche are dropped into Westeros. With their familiars. And their magic. No matter where in the timeline of the series they land, it'd be glorious.

Hmm.

I haven't finished the Ice and Fire books, but Kirche and Tabitha would be rather significantly combat-overpowered there. I would definitely read that.

My thinking is mostly HOLY SHIT DRAGON-RIDING ICE WIELDER DOGS AND CATS LIVING TOGETHER UP IS DOWN AND SIDEWAYS IS PURPLE. Dany and Mel at the very least would be freaked out. And any reality where Daenarys and Melisandre get shafted is a good reality to me.

Plus, having Kirche around will keep things from getting too easy for Tabitha. She's used to working undercover, but Kirche isn't at all. If Tabi has to look after her friend politically, the story can have proper challenges.

Sansa would be the most astonishingly useless familiar ever. All she could really do for Louise is be somewhat more polite and politically savvy than Louise herself.

Though she would still get the Gandalfr perks, right? She'd just be on the same power-level as Saito, is all.

Come to think about it, why would it have to always be Gandalfr? I don't know the character you're discussing, but from what I hear, she might be the type to influence people with words. Why won't she get a power that relates to speaking?
