And the boring Medieval Europe setting, where Cyrodil had been described in earlier games as basically a mash-up of Ming Dynasty China and the Roman Empire in its glory days.

it's pretty hard to be classed as 'nerdy' nowadays. just watching star trek or reading comics use to be enough a few years ago but It's normal now.

I wrote a Java program that recreates the 'hacking' effect seen in Day of Sagittarius.

That's, like, four recursive levels of nerdiness right there.

I wrote a fake Wikipedia style article for Galaxy Quest as if it were a real franchise with several series and movies. The article included brief summaries of each series, along with Star Trek style abbreviations and cast lists made of real sci-fi actors.

[up] I love you.

The only thing that didn't add up for me was that the Thermians were able to recreate the Omega-13 device despite the actors not even knowing what it did. My theory about that is that there were plans for the device being circulated among the crew of the show when it was cancelled... But then you have to wonder how those got into the aliens' hands.

I can certainly try to find it. I hope I still have a copy somewhere. If not I can always write another one.

EDIT: Aha! I found it. I'll post it as a Google doc or something so anyone who's interested can take a look.

Here you go! While you're at it, check this one out too. Both need some fleshing out. Any suggestions?

Sometimes I think science fiction has become an exercise in thinking of new and creative names for the main political/governmental body. The Federation, The Empire, the Combined Earth Protectorate...

Since I am also writing a science fiction that involves a government spanning multiple worlds... Maybe I should break the status quo. Name it something like "The Super Happy Fun Dictatorship of Doom".

I'd read a book about the Super Happy Fun Dictatorship Of Doom.

Ha, that reminds me of an idea my sister had for a comic book character: Angelica the Death Person. I'd totally read that too.

God help me, I've just created a new Neopets account.

When I was younger, this site DOMINATED my life. It was unhealthy. I lost my account to a hacker and it was like losing a child.

And I feel bad because I can't remember the name or password of the other account I made and I can't help but think of the Neopets I left behind, crying and hungry. sad I'm such a wimp.

In most ways, I'm not an active fan. I don't buy merchandise, only rarely attend conventions and I've never gotten around to writing fanfiction. I have often thought I should be more active because for other reasons I will never fit into normal society.

But try this for practical nerdiness. At university in Italy, I found that I could not write fast enough to take notes during lectures. In large part it's because I use impeccable French calligraphy, that I was taught in school and can't bring myself to write less neatly. So I adapted Tolkien's Elvish Tengwar to Italian. (It's a system of interrelated letters that reflects a manner/place consonant scheme but needs some adjustment to be optimal for any given language.) Between their simple, distinctive forms well suited to pen-strokes and having the vowels as diacritics (which would not work so well in English or French) I could write considerably faster. However, reading them back has always been much slower.

Besides the practical aspect, writing a language I knew from scratch taught me about how we process written language. So, can anyone beat that?

A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.
