Plus, I can't see Dumbledore falling for someone who lacked a sense of humor. And Mel Brooks does have a darker side- remember, he did all those Hitler & Nazi jokes to ensure that they're never taken seriously again. He just did it in such an awesomely funny way.
Besides, Gene and Mel have worked well together in the past and have senses of humor. I think it'd work.
