Well, it actually says specifically that the trope isn't supposed to be literal, but I think it should be a supertrope and we can fold all the Everythings Better/Worse With X and Instant Awesome Just Add X tropes into the new supertrope. This was discussed in this thread...
I am now known as Flyboy.I would like to split this by well the added element.
Like Recycled With Mecha Recycled In A Sitcom etc
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!It isn't literal, but it is extremely misleading. Skimming the page, a disproportionate number of the examples involve sci-fi settings, for obvious reasons/
This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.So clean it. Some are stretching but most people seem to be using it well enough.
- Treasure Planet is Treasure Island IN SPACE!... WITH FURRIES!
- A Bugs Life is Seven Samurai (or The Magnificent Seven) IN AN ANT HILL!
- Gankutsuou is The Count of Monte Cristo IN SPACE!
- The main storyline of Outlaw Star is Treasure Island In SPACE! with A GIRL IN A BOX AS THE TREASURE MAP!
- Marvel had a What If? story called "What If Sgt Fury Fought WWII in Outer Space?", which was Exactly What It Says on the Tin. (It was surprisingly good.)
- There's a comic book adaptation of Moby Dick in space. The whalers are asteroid miners, the giant squid is a white star named Kraken, Moby Dick is a (possibly sentient?) comet, and the final harpoon is a 10-megaton warhead.
- Brave New World by Aldous Huxley is We WITH DRUGS!
- Stephen Lawhead's King Raven trilogy is Robin Hood IN WALES. (No, really).
Most people seem to get it. In fact I'm kind of disappointed in some of the lost examples. "V For Vendetta has Robin Hood IN SOYLENT GREEN"(or something to similar effect) "How dare you insult my favorite comic book!"*deletes offending entry*
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackThen again, people don't take nearly as much as offense if you say X Meets Y or Deconstruction.
This could be an interesting experiment with these kinds of tropes.typos How do we go about finding a control group?

Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackIn Space itself, even taken literally is a trope, and that's what it's used for the most, so I think the best road would be making a super trope to encompass it that is more general.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Recycled Setting And Plot Tropes? Or just Recycled Setting Tropes?
I am now known as Flyboy. This is a Super-Trope, not an index.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid....care to explain the difference?
That always confused me.
Actually... should it be an index? It might work better...
I am now known as Flyboy. An index is a list of tropes of a certain theme. A Super-Trope is a trope itself, but includes Sub Tropes. Now a super trope can be an index, but it usually needs to have loads of them. Pimped-Out Dress has just four sub tropes, so not enough to be an index, while Rule of Cool has dozens.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Problem is that that seems to be on the YMMV index.
Fight smart, not fair.It shouldn't be. In Space, Recycled The Series, Distaff Counterpart and Animated Adaptation are all, rightfully, objective tropes.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackI don't think it's quite the same as Recycled Premise. A Premise is fairly broad compared to a series.
Fight smart, not fair.Works For Me(tm).
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Seeing how this page is pretty damn large now we really should break it up into components.
And so on leave Recycled In Space as Exactly What It Says on the Tin and make a supertrope to them all. Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I have a YKTTW called Otherworldly Counterpart; maybe we could have something like that for works or settings instead of tropes? (I'm not sure how valid that YKTTW is in itself anyway, and was thinking of making a trope talk or wiki talk thread about it.)

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartThere's got to be some fun kind of play on Recycle-Reduce-Reuse, here...

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)Bump. Has this gone stale?
Bumpity bump. Anything coming out of this thread, or can it be closed?
I'm not sure how this trope has gotten so far without being called out, but the RIS article title is horribly misinformative. Rather than implying a transplant of a show into a different setting, it implies this sPecifically for a sic fi setting.
