I tried coming clear to them, but I don't think they fully understood. They said I should be more "cautious" in social situations. WTF does that mean??

It means think before you talk and weigh your words carefully.

Trust me when I say that I've had this happen plenty of times before and my friends have tried to lecture me on keeping a steady head in social situations.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

I would consider confusing carelessness for difficulty to be a clear indicator that a person is an idiot.

Nope. The advice you repeated implies that the advice giver cannot tell the difference between the two.

well now I'm really confused- this person just apologized and told me they have some sort of mental illness that alters their attitude or something , which is why they'd been acting mean to me. They claimed they didn't actually mean any of the things they said about me being a creep. I... don't know what to think anymore ??

...Hi. smile

So, somehow, I only just noticed the covens recently, and, from that, this one, heh.

Though mind you I tend to be a bit of a non-posting lurker anyways, but I wouldn't mind talking here. So, hi!

Just a thing I was curious about - has anyone else here have an extremely, constantly over-active imagination, like it never stops at any point, and it's become a bit of a frustration because you have all these ideas and want to bring all of them to the world, but lack the skills to actually *do* so?

Since that's kinda what i'm going through - I have this elaborate universe in my head I really, really badly want to do stuff with, but I'm absolutely abysmal at art and my school years killed my ability to write creatively; whenever I try, I overthink all the rules of writing and lose all energy and motivation in no time flat. I can talk about this sort of stuff non-stop with anyone willing to listen - but whenever it comes to making it something usable, I struggle.

Just wondering if anyone else has that problem, and if they ever figured out anything to counteract it.

...Don't really know what else to say though, so I'll probably end this here. o.o

Hello there! Welcome!

I know exactly how you feel! I've got so many ideas, and yet I have no way to express them. Not only through art, but words as well. I simply lack the words to describe some of the ideas and thoughts that go on in my head.

I've never bothered with the rules of writing before though.

[up][up][up]Did you get the name of the disorder? There are a number of personality disorders for which that actually makes sense. Probably borderline.

[up][up]Do I have an extremely overactive imagination that never stops? I dunno... Hey, Tulpa, what do you think?

T:nope

Nope. Ordinary imagination.

The condition you might be looking for is maladaptive daydreaming. I have not heard anything to make me suspect it has a high comorbidity with autism.

I can say I had an extremely similar experience with writing. I didn't write creatively for about ten years due to academic experiences with writing. And yeah. I got over it. Here's how: hang out with writers; go online and look at advanced material on writing; research writer's block; go beyond the academics; and ignore the rules for now.

Overactive imagination?

Yes. To the point where it's my defining trait. (And I wouldn't have it any other way!) I've had this imaginary world inside my head that I've been working on for as long as I can remember. There are over 100 developed characters in a developed setting. Some of it's inspired by fictional works I've encountered over the years. Since it's my default mind set, everything I experience influences it

I'm always a bit irritated by those exercises you do in English class or art class or something meant to "get your imagination running." (But mine's always running!) or implications that an adult should lose their imagination and become bored and uncreative somewhere along the line

I don't know if it has to do with autism, but I know I have trouble telling nt's about this because they assume I'm having hallucinations or something and need meds. I'm fully aware my imagination isn't real, it's just fun

I'm not sure it has anything to do with autism either, but I am aware of the stigma. Nontheless, pretty sure most writers and artists, especially the famous ones, have something like that going in their head all the time as well. Also, some famous mathematicians and physicists have talked about similar running in their brains all day. It is kind of necessary to obsessively review mathematical principles and physical models in an imaginary space in order to make major math related breakthroughs like Einstein did.

Like many things in life, how people respond to it depends on how you spin it.

I know there are some people on this thread who probably want to get in on advising a writer how to write autism.

I'm too tired to write a response right now, but might you want to direct them over here so they could get some data on how real life autistics interact? They could gauge who we are pretty well by just reading the posts on this thread.

Okay. Sorry about the upcoming rant, but I just need to vent.

Here's the jist of it: I just got a new job working at a 'Host' (more on that later,) at the Minneapolis airport a month ago. Me and my job coach had been looking for a full time job for me for a while now, and it seemed like we'd finally hit paydirt. Anyhoo, today was supposed to be my first day of training, but after working at the Escape Lounge for just a few hours, they pulled me out of there and told me that that before I got the job, they had already given it to someone else. Apparently, they had forgotten about this until now, but the point of it is, I was suddenly out of a job.

The story doesn't end there though. After pulling me out of there, they stuck me at another restaurant and had me try out being a busboy. This didn't end well. The job didn't have any sort of order or structure; it had me doing (or would have me doing; they had me just sit back and watch while simultaneously trying to memorize the numbers of 50 different tables,) a bunch of different tasks at any given time. To be honest, this was the same with the Host job up at the lounge. When I signed on for the job, I thought I was going to be a 'Host'; greeting people, taking them to their seats, etc. Instead, I was a glorified busboy, and now down at that other restaurant, they had me being an actual busboy. It was basically a rehash of an old job I had at a Health Care Center which also didn't work out, (they fired me before I was done with training by the way,), or at least in the ways that mattered, and I just couldn't stand either of them. To be fair, the pace of the lounge wasn't too bad, but it still had me doing even more different things at random times than the other restaurant, and I just can't handle that all that well.

To make a long story short, it wasn't going to work. I might have been able to tolerate the job at the Lounge, but being a straight up busboy was just going to be too much for me, and I didn't really sign on for what I actually ended up doing at either job anyway. I talked to the person who gave me the job, and the both of us agreed that the best thing to do was just to cut our losses, let me go, and move on. The thing that really sucks about this is that I thought I had finally found a job I could make a living on, only for it to not only be taken away from me, but swapped out with a job I liked even less. And to top it all off, I got hit by a downpour that almost evoked the biblical flood on the way home. In short...

I'm 25. I should have had a fulltime job ages ago. I mean, I have a job, but it's not the same thing. I just don't know why nothing ever seems to work out.

They want me to apologize to my mom.

They want me to apologize.

Keep in mind, she still thinks my BF "corrupted" me, (they think he made this decision), when really I'm just tired and can't deal with it anymore.

But, no. I'm apparently too easily influenced to make decisions and the only time she has a problem with me being influenced is when it's not her.

Getting hit with a fish has GOT to be humiliating. (They/them, please)

So, let’s pause for a moment, and for those of you in my age group (61), think back to grade school.

Remember the kid that wouldn’t sit still, no matter how many times the nuns whacked him? Probably ADHD. How about the weird kid, always off by himself that never talked? Autism spectrum. Or the kid that everyone laughed at when he got up to read, because he mangled all the words? Dyslexia.

These behavioral issues have always existed, but they were never recognized as such. (And in a somewhat frightening turn of events, we may now be recognizing behavioral disorders that aren’t really there.)

From Autism, the epidemic that wasn't.

Throughout history people have always tried to ascribe reasons to illnesses they couldn’t understand. When the Black Plague struck Europe in the 1300’s it was felt to be God’s punishment for their sins, not an organism (Yersinia Pestis) carried by rats.

Even as recently as the past generation, children born with handicaps were felt to be bearing the punishment for a sin their parents had committed.

We always want a reason, or sometimes even an excuse for why bad things occur. It also does not help that we still don’t fully understand the nature of autism, its true causes and optimal treatments.

Interesting. After all, it's already been theorized that Einstein and Mozart had autism, so why not Newton?
