Yeah, the Real Life examples could use a big clean-up - I'm all in favor of restricting it to examples with Word of God only.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. The whole page needs a huge scrub-down. Lots of the examples are simply "The creator put a lot of work into this." or "This is a really impressive work".
Tolkein's works are Doing It for the Art — he built the world of Middle Earth because he wanted to build a world to play with his languages in.
Robert Jordan's Wheel Of Time is not. He didn't write them the way he did for the sake of the works. He wrote them that way because that's the way he wrote, and it sold.
Doing It for the Art may overlap with Shown Their Work, but Shown Their Work isn't always Doing It for the Art, and a lot of the examples assume that it is.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
Doing It for the Art is Trivia now, so I don't think the page should be full of all that Gushing About Shows You Like. It should just be Word of God-admitted, not just fan perception. The page looks more like a Sugar Wiki page right now.
