  • The seven year old City of Vilnius recieves its coat-of-arms.

  • King Edward III of England arrests and executes his regent, Roger Mortimer. He will rule England himself from now on.

  • Shams-ud-Din Shah Mir, having defeated Kota Rani, Hindu queen regnant of Kashmir, in battle at Jayapur (modern Sumbal), asks her to marry him, but she commits suicide rather than do so; thus he takes over sole rule of Kashmir, beginning the Muslim Sayyid Dynasty.
  • The Moscow Kremlin is first referred to as a Kremlin.

  • Zhu Yuanzhang, who would become the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty, left the Buddhist monastery he had been living in for the past year and joined a rebel group opposed to the incumbent Yuan Dynasty.

  • The Black Plague kills innumerable Crimean locals, but also strikes the invading Golden Horde and forces their retreat.

A.D. 1347

  • John VI Kantakouzenos wins the Byzantine civil war against the regents of John V Palaiologos when he takes Constantinople.
  • The Black Death reaches Italy and France.
  • The rebel leaderCola di Rienzo takes power in Rome, declaring himself Tribune of Rome, planing to unite Italy and restore the Roman Empire. He sends letters to all Italian cities, asking them to recognize his authority. A bunch of representatives returned, and a reunion party was had, but in practice only Naples really recognized their new sovereign. In the end the Pope declares him a criminal and pagan, and he has to abdicate and flee to Naples before the year is over.
  • The Bahmani Sultanate breaks away from the Delhi Sultanate, becoming the first independent Muslim kingdom in South India. It will later become a major power on the subcontinent.

  • Two ships enter the Bristol Channel bringing the bubonic plague to England.
  • A Papal bull is issued by Pope Clement VI, protecting Jews against popular aggression during the Black Death epidemic.
  • The anti-royalist Union of Valencia attacks the Jews of Murviedro because they are serfs of the King of Valencia and thus "royalists".
  • Emperor Sukō succeeds Emperor Komyo of Japan, making them the third and second of the Northern Ashikaga Pretenders, respectively.
  • Hangzhou in Mongolian China becomes the largest city of the world, taking the lead from Cairo, capital of Mamluk Egypt.
  • The Black Death breaks out in Cairo.
