It seems interesting, having humans being descendents of aliens' experiments. There's little chance that our vast intelligence has come about of its own from evolution. There's one thing - what about the history prior to that 400 years ago? Leibniz and Newton's feud? The black plague in Europe? Plato's idealism? Is that all planted by the aliens?
We wearn't planted on Earth, we (well, our sperm and eggs) were taken of Earth and seeded on other worlds. By 2011 we have about thirty colony worlds.
Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.Well, it certainaly shows potential, as usual.
However, compared to most of your other stories is it not something I would read. (Sci-fi not being my thing...)
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!Thanks, and to each their own.
Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.How much contact have they had with Earth and how much do they know of what's going on here?
Would have been fun if the kids were dumped here expecting pretty much MedievalStasis and: "Hey it looks a bit like home..."
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!They have had intel from Earth, but people rarely go there. Also the cast's ship breaks, and help is a few months away...

Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.I would totally like this as a comedy. Of course you could play it seriously or not.
I see it as a semi comedy, think Start Trek: The Voyage Home, in regards to tone.
Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.I think you should go for it. Outline the characters and the basic framework, and start writing the beginning.
Yeah, that's the perfect tone.

Does this sound like an interesting character? Mort is a wrok, who were a "race" of sophisitcated AI programs, who's creator's incoperated into all their tech, spacecraft, fridges, guns, everything. The creators died out, the wrok just kept maintaining the ashes. Eventually the Raor discovered them, reprogramed them a bit, and settled them on various uninhabitable worlds. They were sort of the first "uplift".
Mort is a teacher, and despite having a screechy metalic voice, he's absurdly nice, almost saint like.

Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.I agree that the Star Trek mentality would probably fit...
Might even get me interested...
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!So possible stuff that could shock the kid's? For one the human and Raori worlds aren't that populated and tend to be decentralized, big cities would be amazing. Imagine if they saw Battlestar Gallactica! Might see some paralles...
Also one of the kid's becomes a huge Mass Effect fan.

Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.I also think this lends itself to a short story or novella, rather than a longer work. But it all depends what you do with it.
Anyone have any thoughts on what a ship for school children could be called?
Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.A MassEffect fan, (again,) say is that a littleAuthorAvatar...

I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!Not really. The Citadal reminds him of home. And Cyril's a Mass Effect fan because I get to have him do a holodeck thing with it, and use Edelyn's face for Tali.
Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.Ok, am i completely wrong if I see them as The Federation in technology and friendliness?
Poor students with Redshirts...
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!Basically, with some annoyingly Raor centerist poilices, tempered by genuine benevolence. Also Mort is kind of like Legion on happy pills.

Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.Actually maybe The Culture would be a more apt comparison. So anyone have any thoughts on an FTL system? And anyone have any thoughts on averting No Transhumanism Allowed?

Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.The SG-1 system of traveling? Do not remember what it is, though... Or you could simply steal the good old Star Trek warp drive... (Star Trek is about the only Sci-fi I like...)
Crossbreeding? The sum beeing more than the total. (Race 1+ race 2 = a kid with gene jackpot.)
Is the Godlings responsible for this? (As usual)

I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!Any cliche's about futuristic societies that'd it'd be good to avert? And trying to think of a handwave for why a bunch of school kid's are being shown the off limits homeworld of humanity.
Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.Well' how old are the students?
A group of students with an huge interest in history and/or anthropology going on a field trip at the end of the last term of high school seems like an good reason...
I reject your reality and substitute my own!!!Well I imagine the student's ages vary a lot, like from the nine to seventeen range. Also they end up abducting a kid.

Life's Gonna Suck When You Grow Up... But Is It That Great Now?... Also I'm Skylark2 now.
Basically you have the Raor, a space fairing race of psychic Human Aliens, for a few thousand years they've had this thing when they would covertly abduct members of primitive societies that they saw potential in, and take genetic samples. Then they would create a few thousand test tube babies, find some virgin worlds, and raise the children to colonize them. Of these uplifted races humans are the newest, only being introduced to the galaxy four hundred years ago. There is some controversy among the rest of the Raori uplifted socities, some saying humans were only bought into the fold because of the resembelence to the Raor, which is enough that with scientific intervention hybridization is possible.
The story is centered around a class of human and Raori/human children, being shown incognito around the Earth, trying to get them to see their "heritage". It's set in the present by the way.
Does this sound interesting?
