So are laser and radar. I don't know enough about soap opera fandom to know if this is becoming a word as well, like those did, but if so, it might be fine.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. It's a pre-existing term, but the Internet seems divided on whether the acronym or the full phrase is the most common use. "Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome" gets more relevant hits on the first page than SORAS, but almost all of those hits include the acronym alongside the written-out version.
Switch with the full name. "SORAS" is incredibly unintuitive. It can be kept as a redirect though.
If it's become a word, it'll be capitalized like a word. I checked the references on the other wiki, as well as what google turned up, and all indications are that this is still an acronym, so I support a redirect swap.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Still needs redirects.
Fight smart, not fair.Definitely support a rename to the full title.
Switch to the full title.
Single Prop Crowner here.
Swap with expanded name, go!
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Swap with the full name.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.-bump-

Alright, It's been a day since my last bump, and The Crowner seems to have stablized at +19 (yeas:23 nays:4) 5.75 : 1. I'd say that's enough to call it.
Do we swap with the full name, or use something else?

Swap. It's a standard term; even the other Wiki calls it that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soap_Opera_Rapid_Aging_Syndrome
(Which means it can go on the We Are Not Alone Index.)
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. It makes more sense to me that people call it and know it as Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome and then use the initials for the sake of ease rather than having some unnatural attraction to the word SORAS.
Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome is the clearer title.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickFor things like this, I don't think we need to even both fixing most of the wicks—the expanded name should just be the main title for ease of reading. There are exceptions, of course. PWP springs to mind.
I'd say give this thread two or three days for someone to come up with a better name, and use the non-abbreviated version if nobody does.
What's the stance on naming tropes "syndromes" even when they're clearly not a medical condition?
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Aside from the Pre-existing term-iness of it? While it's technically a misuse of the word, it works as a framing device for the trope. "The strange "medical disorder" in which an infant suddenly becomes a child or teenager in a year". While it's not a collection of symptoms or anything, it works well enough.
They lost me. Forgot me. Made you from parts of me. If you're the One, my father's son, what am I supposed to be?Wait, wasn't there a trope called Plot Relevant Ageup or some such?
Fight smart, not fair.If I had to label a difference:
- Plot Relevant Ageup: My baby just fell into the timehole, but he came out again and is now an adult. That is sure convienent!
- SORAS: My baby just went to (a completely normal) hospital, and when he came back he was an adult for some reason.
Plot-Relevant Age-Up specifically cites the difference between it and the trope in question on its page - Plot-Relevant Age Up is specifically explained within the story (Time Travel, Year Inside, Hour Outside, Thirteen Going On Thirty, et cetera). This trope just happens without explanation or comment.
Given that the site as a whole is trying to prevent initialism, I say rename to Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Heavy consensus to rename this one. It's at +33. I'm going to make an alt names crowner.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDo we need a titles crowner? Looks like near-concensus to swap with the full name. The Other Wiki even uses the same name, which means we could put this on the We Are Not Alone Index if we swap, which generally strikes me as a good thing.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.16:0 for the lone candidate (and the only one that makes any sense). Can we call this?
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.
Crown Description:
It's an acronym.
