Made a page for the movie, thought I'd let the thread about it know.
I normally avoid forums so as to keep my optimism and faith in humanity (and time), but as long as I'm here, I'll say that I don't much care what the source material is. If the writers, director, and actors can make it come together, it will still be great. It's as silly to dismiss it because of what its name is as it is that many people will see it, and the studio could only greenlight it, because of that name. I've seen terrible yet completely original movies, terrible movie adaptations, and great ones of each. I'll mention that Pirates Of The Caribbean was based on a theme park ride and still managed to be great for most viewers.
Personally speaking, I have no reason to expect Liam Neeson to suddenly stop being awesome, the other leads look like they have good heads on them, the director is passionate but not dream project passionate (look for one of his interviews about the movie), and the overall structure I've heard so far for the plot sounds well thought out. I can usually pick up on when a trailer is covering for the deficiencies of the film or when the director is full of it, and I'm not picking that up now. Barring any changes on that front, this movie has my butt in a seat.

I rarely visit the forums to avoid the cynicism ooze. You need to use curly brackets for single word pages. Battleship. Also, it needs more tropes as the only one it has is wrong.
It sounds like somebody decided to make a film about the game to score some adaption money, and then searched around for a script they could adapt.

Fight smart, not fair.Makes me wonder why no-one ever made a movie about the video game "Hostile Waters - Antaeus Rising"? I mean, resurrected battleship, biochip controlled helos, armored vehicles and naval vessels? No need for expensive human actors in the live action main roles.
Mind you, that trailer made me giggle. Rihanna saying "boom" just before a sixteen inch shell blows the head off of one of those alien things.

"...when you put it that way, I'm curious if the idea came out of two people playing Battleship, but making up their own story as they went along playing it."
I'm half convinced the guy who originally pitched the movie got the idea from watching his kids play Battleship.

YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP
That is the only reason I'll care. Just make this happen, I'll wacth this scene endlessly without shelling out money to see everything else.
Am I the only one who thinks the trailers are like some PG-rated The Aristocrats joke? I mean, you've got Liam Neeson, aliens and explosions going off everywhere, and it ends with the punchline that the movie's called Battleship.
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"What I want to know is how the hell aliens fit into any of this. When I think of the words 'Battleship' and 'movie' I think of a generic war movie about the Navy. There's nothing in there that indicates science fiction piss stemming from Michael Bay's Transformers trilogy.

http://www.longcriercat.deviantart.com I'm thirsty. Got any ink? Resident Pen Ward antagonist.anyone think "yes the borad game, no we are serious'' would make a good tagline?

hashtagsarestupidAt this point, we should just pretend that The Hunt For Red October was the real Battleship movie.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/May I remind everyone that Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was based on a freakin' ride? And it was an excellent movie? People honestly shouldn't be so harsh on this simply because it's based on a board game. If it stands well enough as a movie, who cares what it was based on?
Just my opinion, anyways.

Clue is great fun and based on a board game...but I somehow doubt this will reach that quality level. I just hope someone involved in the movie demonstrates that they have their tongue planted in cheek.
Yes everyone was like 'nooooo you can't make a movie off a board game, this is going to suck' and then when it came out people were like 'omigod this movie rocks!'
hashtagsarestupidAny word about Pirates of the Caribbean being bad ended when the kick-ass teaser (with the music from Bram Stokers Dracula) came out.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Any chance of a link to that?
A trailer that perfectly captures the mood and tells you about the film without giving too much away. Plus, the Dracula music is an excellent touch.
At the same time, the teaser poster with the skeleton driving the ship was released and showed you that Disney wasn't fucking around.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Thanks for that. Will give it a listen when the News Quiz is over.
Just my opinion, anyways.
Are you saying adding an alien mothership would be a bad move for the game?
Fight smart, not fair.I think, "You sunk my battleship!" has a better ring to it than, "You destroyed my mothership!"
"Tyyr's a necessary evil. " SpiritWell, not all TvP games end that way.
Fight smart, not fair.Well, an alien spacecraft equipped with weapons could technically be called a battleship in the most literal sense of the word. And if it's destroyed over the ocean...well, you can probably see where this is going.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I sunk your mothership! Or was that too obvious?
They seemed small for motherships.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimDaughterships?

I hope to all hell that the trailers are lying, nothing could make a better battleship than Liam Neeson dramatically calling out coordinates for 2 hours.
