Yeah, the 5 minute long transformation sequences were pretty bad. I don't even remember some of the action scenes because my mind just clocked out at those.

Some of the later transformations looked so cool though! Although, kinda wish they had cool CGI transformations for all the main Digimon.

To be fair, I would say that adventure only really has weaknesses in terms of budget (no animation) and plot, which is mostly beat the bad guy with the exception of wizardmon and the pinochimon mugendramon episodes. Characterwise, it's still rare to just see the parents on kids shows, let alone actual backstories being delved into.

i watched digimon adventure subbed a few years ago but never really finished it. i enjoyed what i saw though.

the soundtrack especially is awesome. i actually discovered years later that the one orchestral song I kept hearing was actually Maurice Ravel's bolero; and then in Tamers there's a callback to that with a Bolero ringtone. i thought that was awesome.

Well a big problem I had, at least in the first third of the series, is that the pattern of the episodes is awfully repetitive; very Monster of the Week-ish. But yeah, it's pretty clear that the budget per episode was very limited. :x I don't remember if that was also the case with 02...

So some digimon adventure blu-ray screenshots have come up, and I'm glad the movie collection blu-ray doesn't◊ look◊ like◊ this◊.

I mean, I'm sure I could upscale the dvd better in real time.

A silly question regarding the Western dubs... I can get why they would have replaced the Japanese names by western-sounding diminutives (that was actually kind of clever), but why the hell would they replace the perfectly clear "Tailmon" by something obscure like "Gatomon", among other things? It seems like a weird choice to me...

In the specific instance of Tailmon, presumably because it's a rather non-indicative name, especially because it's English-derived. Compare it to other Enlish-derived names: Angemon, Devimon, Leomon, etc. They're generally much more evocative; in comparison, Tailmon is a bit lame. While the tail is a notable part of Tailmon's design, it's not as prominent as the feline features. And Catmon is ridiculous, so a foreign equivalent was chosen for the dub.

That's my two cents at least.

Hum… that sounds like a valid enough explanation. Now harder: explain Piyomon becoming Biyomon. A stealth reference to Bioman maybe…

… and while I'm at it, I'm starting 02, which I never actually saw. From the first 2 episodes, there is a rather huge improvement in terms of animation, but I don't really like the new Transformation Sequence that much. I love the ending music though.

But god, why does the Chosen Child of Love have to be a girl? Ah well, overall all it still gives me a better impression than the first two episodes of Adventure (even though those black rings remind me an awful lot of the black gears). And the villain is voiced by Romi Park so it can't be bad.

The black rings being similar to black gears is intentional. You'll find out why by the halfway point.

Episode 3 and 4… you know, I kind of like the idea of the first Big Bad (yeah, I highly doubt he will be the final boss) being basically a kid who plays "take over the digital world" when he gets bored. Alas his "perfection" doesn't extend to his villain outfit.

Now I am a bit afraid that the new digimon will seem too flat next to the digimon of the first season, whose characters are already well established. Right now neither V-mon, nor Hawkmon or Armadimon are nearly as funny as Gomamon, Palmon or Tentomon for example. The new designs aren't really that great either. More generally, so far this season feels a bit too much in the shadow of the first, with the old characters being far more prominent. But well, that's only the beginning I guess…

I watched the first episode a few years ago I think (or was it Savers?), but I barely remember anything of it, so… no, I haven't watched it yet. I'm planning on watching it after 02.

Everybody here knows the first adventure movie has been released with hd quality and english subs, right?

I would prefer if the last egg had something big like a teaser trailer or a sneak peek of the show's premise. They are leaving just a single egg for last after all and I feel this is intentional, I can totally see its content being quite a big deal. Honestly, if its just merchandising for a movie I've already seen I will be disappointed, even if it is in HD. The purpose of the eggs is to reveal information about Tri.

Considering that most times when those two are in the same universe (with the apparent exception of Redigitize) they hate each other, that must be the most awkward Jogress ever.
