Can we talk about the new B9 update?

I don't know if I should build the Enterprise or the Tiger's Claw.

Does it do anything to clear up the sprawling mess of ten million parts B9 tends to dump over your VAB and SPH?

Because scrolling through endless lists to find one minutely different part I needed is what put me off it mostly. Besides not being too hot on spaceplanes...

Try Part Catalog. Automatically sorts your parts based on mods and part type.

Have that. B9 still has too many parts. [lol]

Well, R5 does that thing where you can change what each part does, say from a structural piece to an LFO tank. You should probably still use Active Texture Management, though.

Scott Manley has done a video of the new B9 pack.

I wonder if there are any mods that add additional ways to get to orbit. Stock you have spaceplanes and rockets. Insterstellar adds beamed microwave power. Where are the mass drivers, laser propulsion and space elevators?

There existed a mass driver mod for .22

Is it reasonable to assume that if my lander can make it into Kerbin's orbit while carrying an extra command pod and without dropping any weight on the way up that it can get into orbit around Eve?

[up]Depends. What sort of acceleration does it produce?

I'm using six Rockomax Mark 55 radial mount engines and three heavy boosters.

Man, I am so pissed. It took me all day to get down a launch vehicle design big and stable enough to get my Eve mission package (two landers and a rover) into orbit, only to find out that my interplanetary transfer vehicle doesn't have enough fuel for the trip, and I can't revert! I might still be able to save the mission, but now I have to design some sort of interplanetary tugboat and I've already wasted enough time and money on this.

Edit: Actually, wait. Can you transfer fuel through the claw?

[up] Yes. Yes you can. At this point I do that almost more often than docking.

Nice. Are you using Real Solar System there, or just a set of improved textures?

Anyone had a problem with the claw? After days and days of getting an asteroid into a Kerbin orbit I can't get it to attach to the asteroid. :( Worse is that I managed it earlier with an unmanned ship.

Edit: yeah now it happens to all my vessels. Claw doesn't attach. It makes contact, the asteroid slides around, and then it bounces away.

After much toil, effort, the building of a refueling vessel, and the bulding of a fuel-transfer vessel because the refueling vessel didn't work correctly, I now have my Eve mission once again underway.

I'm having fun with Interstellar. Just launched a nuclear-powered ScanSAT, with some TweakScale thrown in for good measure.

I should really try getting back into this game. I haven't played it in a while because well I know jack squat about interstellar travel and all the doodads that go along with it.

There was a new update, recently? What was in it?

If I could the B9 update plus interstellar...

I'd have a true starship.

Dammit, my lander can't survive Eve reentry. It's probably for the best though, because I have a feeling that I'll need all the fuel in the lander in order to make it back to kerbin. At least I got some Gilly data out of the mission.

Right, so I've got this idea for a mod:

KRAKEN HUNTING!

Basically, custom 'asteroids' that look like Kraken and mess with physics when you get close. This would also come with contracts to bring them back to Kerbin for absurd amounts of science and money. Would this even be possible?

Does anyone know of a mod that adds cargo bays to the game?

I'm aware of a couple, the one I'm thinking of the bays were sized to the standard 0.625, 1.25 and 2.5 metre parts. I've been looking through all the add-ons and can't seem to find it.

B9 is pretty good for cargo bays. The new release adds HUGE ones.
