If Dragonborn gets to summon dragons, Link gets to have the fairys that revive him. Or Midna. So yeah, best to not open that can.

(As a side-note, dragons in the Zelda series usually don't have obvious weakpoints, Aquamentus being the only exception. Link has defeated dragons by cutting off their heads, smashing their faces with a hammer, reflecting their breath back at them, or by stabbing them in the back)

However, slowing down time would do Link in. All of Link's options on dealing with that would depend on prevention, and the only way that would work is if Link preemptively put on one of his endgame spells/armour (which is unlikely).

It sounds like Link would be able to deal with everything else (including the impressive strength, which various Links also achieve), so it would still be a fun match.

[up]You didn't read one of my posts, I think. Durnehviir is a summon, unlike Odahviing. Durnehviir should count since it's the dragonborn's power that brings him into Skyrim and sustains him there, otherwise he's just a zombie in not!Hell. Saying "No Durnehviir" is like saying "No Dremora Lords/Zombies/Exploding Wolves/Familiars/Atronachs/etc".

It's a lame fight because there's nothing stopping the Dragonborn from just turning invisible and then stabbing Link in the neck/Fus Ro Dah'ing him off his feet then stabbing him to death/Marking him for Death and then dominating him in sword combat/Disarming him/turning into a vampire and launching Link several feet into the air/encase Link in a block of ice/etc.

Yes exactly. All those things would be disallowed. They made clear their stance on summons when Cloud was disallowed them.

[up]x4 That's why I said we need to give Link everything. All transformations, items, gear, magic, and abilities. Surely all of that would be enough to at least make it a fair fight.

I really don't think so, since the Shouts are just so varied in function that I doubt Link could find a way to beat them. Link's pretty strong, and I suspect in a sword fight things would be a bit more even, if we grant the Dragonborn even a few of his main abilities (and unlike Summons, these are inherent to the character himself, not an outside force that his power can call) Link won't really have much of a chance.

I'd like to think Link is the much better sword fighter. In a straight up duel, even with daedric/dragonbone/stahlrim armor and weapons I'd give Link the advantage. But including the various skills, spells, and equipment both fighters could possess I dare say the Dragonborn is above Link's weight class. A victory for Link is not impossible, but most likely would go to the Dragonborn.

^ Aquaman. They both have the same powers after all.

I still say he has a chance. Disarmed? Use wolf form until there's an opening to grab his stuff. Marked for death? Slip into the Dark World until it wears off. Invisible? Lens of Truth. Need a quick dodge? Painting form, Stone Mask, or fairy spell. And for the ace in the hole: the Giant's and Fierce Deity Masks. Plus, one of Link's defining characteristics is finding weak points. Eventually he'd be able to figure out the shout recharge mechanic and use it to his advantage.

Stone Mask doesn't always work. Enemies like bosses and Gerudo Pirate sword fighters are not fooled. Also, the Giant's Mask only seems to work in the weird desert... place that Twinmold resides in.

Wolf Form requires Midna's aid. He need someone to use the curse crystal on him.

For Aquaman vs Spongebob. Are we giving Aquaman a bladed weapon, like the hook hand or trident? Spongebob's body absorbs water and bends around blunt force.

Yeah, I suppose every weapon/skill/magic that Link ever had would make him capable of countering all the skills that the Dragonborn can have, even if the latter sounds like he would eventually win.

Which is why you open every battle with Slow Time. Stab Link before he does anything.

Then there's the Dragonborn's much better magic. Mass Paralyze cannot be deflected (As it's an area spell)

For Aquaman vs Spongebob. Are we giving Aquaman a bladed weapon, like the hook hand or trident? Spongebob's body absorbs water and bends around blunt force.

He'd have to have the Trident of Neptune, which is RIDICULOUSLY POWERFUL.

The Dragonborn can also make a thunderstorm happen and then the very heavens will be trying to kill Link too with lightning from above.

I'd say the TES is too strong a verse for Zelda.

While I agree with the general statement, lightning storms in particular are actually a poor example. Link's sword has proven capable of channeling a lightning bolt hitting it in order to store the electricity as an extra-powerful Skyward Strike.

Bigger than the surface area of the Mirror Shield, I assume?

I don't really know much about what's going on, so personally, I'm reconsidering some of my ideal matchups. I'm going to statewho I think would win, with rationale. I'd appreciate if you guys discussed this as well.

  • Afro Samurai vs Samurai Jack (the no name samurai) — WINNER: Samurai Jack. Jack doesn't show it much, but he has much more diverse training, he can jump good, and his opponents tend to be tougher.
  • Jack Cayman vs. Travis Touchdown (Dueling Games) — WINNER: Travis. Jack is by far the more seasoned fighter in terms of actual experience, but Travis has bested seasoned fighters before, has Dark Side Modes and Glastonbury, and unless Jack has shown more durability in Anarchy Reigns, which I own but haven't played, Travis has him beat there.
  • Aku vs. Shendu (the Demon Sorcerors) — WINNER: No idea. Probably Aku, being the greater evil, but Aku has been bested several times by humans with holy weapons, while Shendu has only ever been truly beaten by magic.
  • Knuckles the Echidna vs. Donkey Kong (the trifecta) — WINNER: No idea. I assume Knuckles, giving SEGA the three-peat.
  • Edward Elric vs. Harry Potter (battle for the Philosopher's Stone) — WINNER: No idea. If Harry gets his broom, probably him, but if not, I don't know.
  • (Ultimate) Kars vs. (Perfect) Cell (The True Ultimate Life Forms) — WINNER: If it's anything other than Cell squashing quickly, I think Kars wins. Kars could quickly learn the principles behind Ki manipulation, and given his shown feats, I wouldn't be surprised if he could master it. He'd need to in order to completely obliterate Cell. But, given Cell's need to prove he's better, I figure he'd want to see Kars learn Ki, bite off more than he could chew, and get killed for it.
  • Avatar Aang vs. Neo (the Kung Fu Jesuses) — WINNER: I dunno.

Also, still curious if anyone has an ideal opponent for the following female combatants: Yuna, Morrigan, Storm, or Sailor Moon

[up][up] Not that big, about person-width. But while Link is busy blocking lasers from the sun, he's not blocking sword slashes is he? (The lasers keep firing from the sun for several seconds after the Dragonborn shoots the sun with Auriel's bow).

Honestly, on its own, Slow Time is such an advantage I can't see Link matching. Since any countermeasure he might have is slowed down too.

Yeah, Slow Time is a bit too powerful. Any other ideas for Dovahkiin opponents? I remember suggesting Shulk before, but I can't remember what all was said about it.

Depending on the specific mirror shield, it redirects rather than just blocking.

But yeah. Time slowing is nuts, and Link's own Song of Inverted time strangely doesn't apply to combat.

All this talk of time-slowing has me thinking of another matchup.

Dovahkin vs Bayonetta.

...with the Link outfit.

Dunno what the power level of Bayonetta is, but keep in mind that one of the Dragonborn's most basic shouts, FUS RO DAH is capable of leveling whole forests (lore-wise).
