Who would be a good opponent for Bowser?
I'm thinking either Ozai or Azula as they both share "villain with fire motif" with Bowser. Although I think Bowser would lose to either of them because both Azula and Ozai can shoot lightning.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life! Those would be awful match ups. Loads of villains have a fire motif. Satan has a fire motif.
You need another villain from a video game or similar universe, or you run into the same issues that Kirby vs Buu did.
I'd say do a researched Bowser vs. Eggman fight. Or even have Bowser fight Ganondorf.
I kinda want to see Bowser vs. Volcana, but Volcana would likely win given how she's one of Superman's villains.
"You need another villain from a video or a similar universe, or you run into the same issues that Kirby vs. Buu did."
Numerous fights on Death Battle have featured two different medium (Samus vs. Boba Fett, Luke vs. Harry, Goku vs. Superman, Fox vs. Bucky, Toph vs. Gaara, Kirby vs. Buu, Vegeta vs. Shadow, Nightmare vs. Guts), so it wouldn't be odd for Bowser to face a non-game villain.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!I'd really like to not just have Alternate Company Equivalent characters or people who just had the exact same moves. It limits how varied or creative a fight can be.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI didn't say it would be odd, I said it wouldn't work. What made Kirby vs Buu a less than stellar match-up is that Kirby's verse operates on very loose rules. Kirby can simultaneously survive an exploding star, and be killed by an apple landing on his head. Mario games run on similar logic, so sending Bowser up against an opponent from a more serious and/or more consistent universe, is begging for problems.
Harry Potter vs Luke Skywalker works because, despite the radically different genres, the series take themselves equally seriously.
There is, however, a line. Batman vs Galactus is a terrible idea because no matter how you slice it, Galactus is going to win ("prep-time" be damned).

Unless we'd be doing that for something like One-Minute Melee (like straight up just animating a fight scene where your preferred character wins. I've literally seen a video having Vegeta fight Sailor Mars and Vegeta ends up winning).
I don't really know how strong Bowser would be compared to a Firebender.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Much, much stronger, IIRC.
The sad, REAL American dichotomySo, Bowser would win? So Azula would have to be powered up by Sozin's Comet to stand much of a chance?
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life! Not even then, since Bowser in Galaxy was capable of being within five feet of a star of all things without instantly dying due to the heat.

Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!He and Mario regularly stand in rooms filled with lava without adverse effects. Convection simply isn't a thing in Mario.
I have a message from another time...Yet at the same time, Mario can be killed by being struck with a turtle shell. Which is why I think characters like him, and Bowser, et al, should only really be sent up against characters from similar universes.
Well, Ice in the Divine Comedy/Inferno. (And none in the bible but that's another story) :-P
To be fair, it's also not a thing in Last Airbender either. I mean, just look at Azula Vs Zuko's final fight, where both of them send gouts of flames the size of house mere inches from one another's face and no one's even singed.
Or Roku on the volcano.

Bowser's abilities, IIRC, are decently explained enough - particularly because the series explicitly explains his fluctuations in power as being the use of magic to make himself bigger/smaller/stronger/weaker (though Inside Story has it so his ability to grow giant-sized is biological, just difficult to actually trigger), and if push comes to shove has the various RP Gs which give a better estimate of what to expect from him. The could paint a pretty good picture of Bowser's powerset by picking, say, Bowser's Inside Story + any of the mainline games that have a fight with him at normal size (which is approximately what they use in Smash relative to Mario, if a slight bit bigger), like 64, and with a bit of input from the Smash series.
Mario in general keeps a pretty standard concept when it comes to the characters and their abilities. When things change, they're typically explained.
Though I think Bowser's a perfect character to do that "army vs army" thing again. My first inclination is to say Eggman, but Dedede might be a better option.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I do think Dedede would be a better option. Their armies are both cartoony and everything.
moving heated gas is their superpower though. If anyone would be able to shield themselves from convection, it's them.
I have a message from another time...Though Zuko's left eye was burned courtesy of Ozai.
Also, in SMB 1, 3D Land, and New Super Mario Bros, Bowser has taken Lava baths and is still kicking. If Mario touches the Lava, he dies.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!while he was attempting to surrender and very much not doing any Firebending.
And in New Super Mario Bros, Bowser takes a lava bath and becomes a skeleton.

I have a message from another time...In fairness, the lava bath in NSMB actually did kill him. He was incompletely resurrected as a skeleton later, but was fully resurrected, flesh and all, by his son just after Dry Bowser was beaten.

I'm applying NSMB to the whole sub-series. I think he took a lava bath in Wii.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Bowser vs Dedede or Eggman could work. So could Bowser vs K.Rool, actually.
Actual convection control was explicitly shown in TLA to be a master level ability, when Roku and Sozin tried to fight that volcano.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyWait, what happened to those four rockets Samus fired towards the start?
Also, was that some sort of Meta Samus or something?
What the hell was that?
The sad, REAL American dichotomy
Becuase we have no idea how much more powerful those things makes her or even what she can specifically do with them.
