Question: which video is the one with the fox? I want to see the one with the fox.

Anyone who assigns themselves loads of character tropes is someone to be worried about.

[up] That would be Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. It was actually his first video. http://blip.tv/brows-held-high/brows-held-high-antichrist-3846494

Warning: Low quality everything. Oh and the movie itself is pretty fucked up.

[up]Woo! It’s the team-up I was waiting for!

I can only ponder as to what movie they’re reviewing. My guess would have been Salò or Sweet Movie...if they hadn’t already reviewed both of those.

I'm surprised it took this long for them to team up! After all, the difference between arthouse and exploitation often comes down solely to perspective.

Groovy.

It's gonna be Tromeo and Juliet. Kyle posted a hin on his twitter, and I looked it up. It could still be something else, but I'm pretty sure I got it right.

My favorite bit was "Wait, if you dislike these movies so much, how do you know so much about them?" "Shhh *cutting motion*"

It was an interesting episode, and kinda served well to shut down those who were complaining that Oancitizen was a snob ripoff.

I personally think they didn't do enough with that personally. Oan was mainly snarking at the movie, which is what the Snob does. He's more an analytical reveiwer and he has been able to work with material that wasn't that deep (Hamlet The Vampire Slayer) by discussing the differences in context between the two equivalent scenes.

"Oh by the way... the fourth year shoot was fun"

This was pretty shorter episode than usual, but I really liked how it was put together. And the stinger was pretty funny too.

How did he sum up Warhol in one sentence better than two of my modern art classes?

My own view of Warhol is kinda divided. On the one hand, he is massively overrated, and his art created the art speculator market that did to art what capitalism does to everything, make it worse. On the other hand, he really was a voice of the outsiders before everyone else. And his art is overrated because that's what he intended. And basquiat, despite his skill and vision, would have probably not become famous without Warhol's help. And the fact that he helped launch the carreer of the one prominent black modern artist has to account for something.

I can't help but think the first few lines of the Lupa scene were referencing her recent post on the subject of being a female character on the site. Not that Diamanda was any less funny in the same situation.

Not much to add, other than that I greatly enjoy Oan Citizen's reviews. I like how he doesn't focus solely on the negative (while the films he reviews are certainly controversial, only a handful [Trash Humpers, the Doom Generation] are really seen as completely lacking merit). I actually really want to watch The Fall thanks to his review, and I'm sort of curious about Twilight of the Ice Nymphs just for the visual richness.

I actually really liked Twilight of the Ice Nymphs. I don’t know if I’d recommend it as an intro to Guy Maddin’s stuff but it’s seriously and without irony one of my favourites of his.

I generally liked his review of the Devils because it highlighted the best parts of the film. I feel like he missed the point of the movie though: Catholicism drives you crazy. It's why the imagery is so weird.

Yeah, I was also wondering if the weirdness was trying to show the ridiculousness of the whole concept. Having not seen the movie myself, I can't really comment.

That was certainly... something. Now, i'd think it would be more bearable as a performance art piece rather than a full on movie.

Also, blackface and ghetto Condi are kinda not OK. No, not even as satire.

Heh, I miss Condi. For some reason the State Department spokesman has to be a reptilian sociopath who sounds like a sitcom mom, and she fit the bill nicely.

Now we've got Nuland and her dastardly eyebrow. Just not the same.
