The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So... Apparently yesterday Fox News released a story that Clinton was endorsed by a KKK Grand Dragon. I saw this on a very liberal leaning Facebook feed I follow, so I went looking for corroborating information. I would up on Snopes. That should about say it all, really.

Reason I bring it up is the liberal site's article noted it as a sign of desperation on the Republicans' side and I wondered if anyone agreed.

Has FOX forgotten their audience? An endorsement from the Klan is a good thing in their viewer's eyes.

I don't think most Republicans would actually agree with that.

I think I lost several braincells watching this.

Even after the DNC, Trump's hideous comments, the Republicans refusal to disavow him,

HOW can any rational person still make this dumbass argument?!

The vast majority of Republicans hate the Klan. For example, a guy even I consider almost hilariously right-wing declared that he refused to support Trump because he refused to instantly denounce the Klan and act like they were anything but evil.

I suspect however that the Republicans who still view the party as the party of Lincon and don't suppor the Klan, aren't the ones religiously watching Fox.

Speaking of Fox viewers, did they actually just fire Megan Kelly? I saw something posted on FB, but it was so full of misspellings (including her name) that I didn't think it was serious.

I think she's in the last year of her contract, and its questionable if it will be renewed.

Frankly I'd like to see her on a better network that doesn't require her to pretend to be a ignorant nutjob sometimes.

[up]Outside of Sean Hannity, and a few others, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the vast majority of their anchors were either moderates, or simply doing it for the money.

That's why Fox News doesn't really annoy me on a personal level, like the far-left does.

I mean, if someone offered you a contract for millions of dollars, just to spew bullshit...you might think you'd say no, but when the papers are right in front of you....

Megyn has generally been fair, since she got her own show anyway. I can only imagine if she became a free agent, the other channels would utterly salivate at the chance to take her on board.

Before she joined fox she spent several years as a corporate lawyer. Kelly's the smartest person in their entire lineup and I think she'd do great work on another channel where she could really cut loose.

I honestly thought she was one of the crazier ones, though I was operating on second-hand information. Glad to see I'm wrong, and I hope she ends up on a network that isn't batshit insane.

Depends on how the election goes. Trump loses, Hannity (and maybe Bill) is out. Trump wins, she is.

If she stays, she might end up reforming the network.

I can't see Fox tossing Bill, he's been a mainstay for decades. Even firing Hannity would shock me.

Not a question of firing. All three contracts are up in a year. It's about renegotiation. The Brothers Murdoch aren't as fond of him as daddykins (or former FNC head Ailes for that matter), and O'Reilly has hinted that he might be ready to retire "sometime soon". Hannity, on the other hand, isn't nearly as much of a media darling, and has tied himself to Trump's wagon so tightly, he'll end up a raving loon if the hairdo loses.

I keep getting these goddamn ads for Trump on this site. The other ads I don't mind so much (except that they slow down my computer.) Anybody know how to block them or turn them off?

Adblock's a thing, but if you just want those specific ads gone I guess you could try reporting them?
