Soo, the first Tales of Honor comic is out. Whats your verdict?

Mine is...good. Its not perfect, there are things I don't like (Treecat Design for one) and things I do (Knowing they would not adapt the original Ships I think the ones they used in the end are close enough to not be jarring. I still prefer the original Bu Nine ones, though. The wormhole support station is also interesting in a "i never imagine dit like that" way) It stayed at the original story, no departures there which I like.

Character design is...well..nondescript. Maybe its just the artist but the characters seem...bland. Aside from Pavel Young who just radiates smug aristocrat. So call it a win [tongue]

Ultimately, its exactly what it is...an adaption. And for that its not as bad as it could have been. It's, as a comic, aimed more to get new readers into the Honorverse than appeal to older readers, I think so lets see how it plays out. I still prefer my vanilla HH, though :)

At least the preview cover for #2 is keeping up with grand old Baen tradition...

I had forgotten that was coming out. I'll see if I can hunt it down during my long weekend.

FYI, at the launch of the Timothy Zahn/David Weber prequel A Call to Duty last Thursday (got my HC copy, autographed by all 3 contributors^* one uncredited on the cover but mentioned in the foreword, to keep casual shoppers from mistaking it for another anthology since anthologies don't tend to sell as well) at Dragoncon, Weber said that the plan was for 2-3 more main Honorverse novels (Saganami and Torch series are part of that), in addition to the 3 prequel books, though both Weber and Zahn jokingly mentioned they could think of 20 books to make in the Manticore Ascendant series (formal name for the prequels, as per the cover of Call).

Just like the first five Safeholds were supposed to be ONE book

Not complaining, though. Even if the Honor plot is through, imo the Honorverse has lots of stories to tell.

I recently finished A Beautiful Friendship and I've got Fire Season on hold. Surprisingly, in the book focusing on the treecats, they come off as a lot less Mary-Sue-ish.

So, apparently from a recent Q&A (I don't have a source, only got told this from someone who watched it), it appears that a certain Jim Butcher would love write an addition to HH, namely a Royal Manticorian Marine and his trusty Treecat sidekick Sarge.

....Shut up and take my money!!?

Just finished reading the main-line books in the Honor series. They're really rather awesome aren't they? I had something else clever to write there but I just forgot what it was. Maybe something to do with the fact I read 13 books in just over a week and a half.

According to a statement made by Weber at a convention panel, Evergreen Productions has filed for bankruptcy.

Where this leads the multimedia franchise stuff that Evergreen was working on in the Honorverse (movie, comics, etc) is unknown at this time, beyond "not happening at the moment".

Huh, well the Comics are IDW so they might continue. But I figure the Movie is at the very least on hold.

Not sure what I think about that because some...aspects of the nascent movie verse were a bit...offputting to me. From the comics and the game so far I got the feeling of it being action-movie-ized a bit, which is a bit of a red flag to me.

Published by IDW or actually made (as in drawn and inked) by them? I've never really been clear on that particular association.

My bad, its Top Cow not IDW.

And I'm not sure, the Artist has nothing on her twitter. So wait and see?

And on that subject at Libertycon earlier this summer I picked up the 1-4 collection of Tales, but haven't read it yet. Maybe I should change that.

Tooo be perfectly fair. I'd rather have the next main story book or the next companion rather than the movie at this point. <.< >.>

At least Safehold 8 comes out soon.

While Weber was consulted on the changes made from the novels, he wasn't really spending all that much time on the non-book properties, long ago explicitly stating that he'd take a mostly hands-off stance on other media adaptations, so it wasn't taking up too much of his time really.

It's all the other bazillion universes he writes in that are the time sinks.

Oh yes. Something to get on ebook once Baen's got it ready. Because screw paying twenty six dollars for a hardback book. Thanks for the head's up.

I'm probably going to be weak and buy the eARC.

Someone close enough to DW to have reasonably accurate information has posted on the official DW forums that both of those release dates are rather over optimistic guesses by the publishers. In one case he hasn't even started writing it yet.
