Straight Pride? Nice idea, but who the hell would attend? What would be the point!

There isn't a Straight Pride parade for the same reason why there isn't an International Men's Day.

There are no goals to accomplish, and no milestones to celebrate.

I don't see what the big deal is, if he wants to have a straight-pride day so be it.

Yes, take pride in being conventional. Why not start a parade for wearing jeans and walking on two legs?

I swear, Americans will take any excuse to not go to work and get shitfaced. I mean, what other reason have we co-opted St. Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo? Also, if chicks start making out, then that's not exactly promoting "straight pride", is it?

Finally, is it just me or is anybody else constantly getting that banner ad about the gay hotel with the naked Asian guy up against the wall?

It'll be as controversial as White Pride.

Really, it's just Us vs Them, round 38,473,289,589 - or some ludicrous number up there.

Hmm. Straight pride day. No, I think he’s completely accurate. There’s no reason why straight people, the poor, discriminated-against minority who are constantly denied basic rights like the ability to marry who they want, shouldn’t have a pride day. So let’s think, shall we? January 1st work for y’all? Or the 2nd? Or the 3rd? Or any fucking day because you can go out and hold hands with the person you love without fearing harassment, adopt a child without being denied because homosexual parents are “unfit” to parent children, or, I don’t know, get drunk and married at a drive through in Vegas simply because the alcohol told you it was a good idea and the law says that you’re the right kind of people to get married. Why no straight pride day? For the same reason why there is no white heritage month in schools. Every day is pride day. So have fun.

This straight pride stuff is reactionary bullshit.

And gay pride isn't?

I can understand the guy's butthurt. Straight people (especially men) feel that they are basically being told that they owe the world an apology for being who they are when confronted with constant political activistism of minority groups. But shooting back with your own pride movement is the wrong attitude to take.

People feel threatened because instead of asking "why are you guys having a parade?", they just jump into the conclusion "if they're proud of who they are, then that must mean they think they're better than me".

Though admittedly, there is a thin line between pride and arrogance. Nationalism/patriotism makes that very obvious, and I sometimes lapse into thinking no one should be allowed to be proud of their nationality, since it always leads into bigotry. Therefore, I won't blame anyone (too much) for thinking that people shouldn't be allowed to be proud of their sexuality.
