See, I seem to recall a recent preview that specifically mentioned you could raise or lower your hood in order to better hide from guards.

Well, they kinda did. It seems like their answer is something like "we've aimed for 900p 30fps from the start."

I can't help but feel that complaining about a current generation console game being throttled to 30 FPS for quality purposes is the epitome of First-World Problems.

[up]While it is a superfluous complaint in comparison to, say, Starving Kids in Africa (Though, there are issues with that exact train of logic as pointed out on the TV Tropes page for the argument), there are valid issues with the product at hand and there's nothing wrong with being concerned about the quality of the product, particularly since the prices for these things keeps going up higher each year.

And, compared to most video games out there being discussed, the FPS and Technical Aspects are a pretty essential thing to be concerned about when it comes to video games, rather than, say, the characters returning/not returning for an installment or other such... less essential issues.

We have a trope for that too, Appeal to Worse Problems.

30FPS is fine as long as the tradeoff is more detail in the environments/characters, since on consoles you are working with fixed hardware and you have to prioritize things. It's kind of sad though when you look at a game like Metal Gear Solid V, which will run at 60FPS on consoles, but also has better graphics and more complex gameplay/simulation.

I just wish Ubisoft would quit lying about the reasons for their fuckups, like how they're still denying that Watch_Dogs got a graphics downgrade even though it obviously did just from looking at trailers and screenshots compared to the released game.

I'm honestly not sure why anyone cares.

I mean, it's really not important to the quality of the game. AC isn't built on twitch reflexes, so the framerate barely matters, and oh no, it's slightly less HD than it could be. I don't know why resolution and frame rate are suddenly something that gets reported in the first place.

Because the hardware to play these games can run into the thousands of dollars, and people expect value for money. Otherwise we might as well just keep making games for the Play Station 2 and play them on black and white CRT televisions.

You know, when I saw a preview of Co D Advanced Warfare at 60 FPS I was actually briefly disoriented. People have been whining about how increased framerate apparently hurt their eyes or something.

[up][up] That's a false dichotomy. There's a huge gulf between black and white TVs and modern day consoles, and every system, no matter how powerful, makes tradeoffs between performance and price.

Anyway, isn't this throttling only on PS4 and XBone? Those don't cost "thousands of dollars".

If you want a decent TV to play on, yes. My TV cost 900$, add to that the 600$ I paid for my PS 4 and that's 1500$ I've spent on equipment to play games. The native resolution of my TV is 1080p, so it's a little annoying when a company like Ubisoft decides 900p at 30FPS is the best they can do even though games with better graphics can easily handle 1080p at 60FPS. It's just laziness, they're not taking full advantage of the system's hardware and making stupid excuses for why they can't do it.

Look, I'm fine with 30 FPS if they'd just say 'Hey, we can't get it to run at 60 FPS because the technology is too new and we're not fully capable of being able to get it that way' instead of pulling excuses out their ass about 'cinematic experience' and 'artistic integrity'.

[up][up] I wonder what that guy was planning on doing to that place that he was marching to. Napoleon also brings up a good point, one that for some reason nobody saw during the Revolution XD

Also I love the voice acting, even if they're not sprinkling their words with French phrases like the Ezio trilogy.

I get the strangest feeling Arno will be a recurring protagonist, and we'll have a "Arno Trilogy" of sorts going from The French Revolution to the Napoleonic Wars (he'd be in his forties by then). This could be Arno's first interaction with his future Big Bad.

Word of God's that they're not doing anymore trilogies, though I wouldn't be surprised if Arno did have a sequel game.

So I've just started playing the series and I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed 1.

My problem is that it's really boring so far?? And looks extremely dated too, at least on my computer. Meh. :/ I really want to jump in and start playing Assassin's Creed 2, which I've heard is really fun, but I don't want to be that guy.

AC 1 is pretty much a tech demo compared to II. Nobody would blame you for skipping ahead, and pretty much the only thing you would be missing out on is Altair's character development for when he gets revisited later on in Revelations. I only played 1 because I got it free with Revelations.
