Nintendo also announces and releases consoles in the same year... until this year. I also doubt MS would miss the biggest media event of the year to get the news out LATE.

So the only way they could possibly sell a new system is too attach halo to it?
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.No. Freaking. Way.
If they didn't have one ready to announce for E3 2011, it's not coming in 2012. They may just be holding out for Gamescom, but I sincerely doubt it.
As Gies says, this is NOT NINTENDO.
Microsoft announces at E3, and then if it's not available TOMORROW (Xbox 360 S) then it's available that holiday (Xbox 1, Xbox 360).
That's the way they operate: Check out this cool shit, and guess what? It's right around the corner.
Jonah FalconI'm still calling it a giant load of BS until we get something significantly more useful than "This guy totally thinks it will happen and you should care."
I also can't help but notice on a cursory google search that you're the only person that's reporting this rumor as fact, both on your blog and on Strategy Informer. In fact, that makes me even more skeptical since usually the rest of the gaming press reports on these things enmasse. Then again, I suppose the next question is "Who the crap is Arther Geis and why should I care what he has to say?!"
Only if you haven't been following the situation. MS has been working on the 720 by the LATEST mid-2009, and as early as mid-2008.
Jonah FalconAs I said in the other rumor thread, console R&D is always in motion. That doesn't mean they've got something to launch and this guy that I've never heard of swearing up and down that it will happen doesn't mean squat.
Why would Microsoft just jump ahead to the 720 or whatever? They're still getting the Kinect off the ground by expanding it, and I doubt that "compatibility for the 360 replacement" is on the list of things to add to it.
Yes, they could be working on one, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll release it by 2012.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelRebochan, Arthur Gies is an editor at IGN, and was the News & Features editor for IGN's Xbox division for years now. He has contacts in the industry (as I do, too), and has followed in particular Microsoft's games division intently for years.
Jonah FalconCool. Did one of your industry contacts tell you this? No? Then you're speculating.
If they did, then I sure hope they're cool with you guys broadcasting it all over the internet.
If they did, I couldn't tell you.
Jonah FalconOr you'd have to kill him?
Going to have to jump on the bullcrap bandwagon. One guy at IGN who "has contacts in the industry" (Which I doubt) is hardly good proof that "IT'S COMING OUT IN 2012 GAIS!"
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."...then why are you posting threads like this and flashing your and the guy's industry creds as proof that the speculation must be true?
The specifics of what Arthur Geis stated.
