A split does sound like a good idea.

I'm for a split. Tanuki have that whole testicle focus that has nothing to do with racoons. For that reason alone they should probably be elsewhere.

Sounds good to me.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.

The split pages should probably link to each other though as they are sister tropes.

I'm guessing I should YKTTW this since there were only 3 tanuki-related examples on the list.

Most Tanuki examples are in a section in Yōkai, though there are enough to split if you want.

Youkai is in the repairshop as well for splitting by type which needs to be finished.

Tanuki ≠ Raccoon. The Japanese traits associated with tanuki are similar, but not identical, to the American Rascally Raccoon trait. For instance, Japanese associate them with shapeshifting, which isn't a trait shared with the Rascally Raccoon.
Also, despite being called a "raccoon dog", it's not at all related to the raccoon. Since there are some differences, and these are completely different animals anyone else think this should be split? It really wouldn't need to be anything more than Tanuki.
ETA: Tanuki is currently a stub without any examples.
