I finally was able to play this game. It's fun so far, although picking random skills may not have been wise my first time through. I got the Vegan skill, and failed miserably at staying down the path to enlightenment, resulting in debuffs.

Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadHuh, the mispelled titled one? That's a shame.
Anyway, just got this off the Steam sales and I'm hooked. Just made the most horrible realization just now though:
"Alright, I've got the best gear I can find, and fighting these enemies seems like a waste of resources so I'll just rush through the 10th floor and face off Dredmor and be done with it. Strange he didn't show up in this floor, but, oh well..."
*Enters 11th floor**
"...WHERE'S MY BOSS?"
One horrific gangbang of Muscle Diggles later (which somehow didn't get me the acheivement to add salt to the wound) and I learned a valuable lesson. Don't activate the Realm Of The Diggle Gods DLC unless you know what you're getting into.
...Let us in...I think one patch or dlc added "Smaller floors" tag you can use when you begin new game xD Probably for that reason.(Though, most roguelikes don't have bosses for many floors =P Which is the final one, so its suitable)

I know. But I like to do things slowly. I get to make more decisions and the trek becomes more of a survival game. It's all a learning process, so my new game already has a much better start now (random Werediggle viking FTW).
...Let us in...protip on the Vegan tree: if you have the Aura of Self-Righteousness, don't fight guys next to brax.
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!I wonder. What is the appropriate approach to being a vegan? Not being able to fight animals without harsh penalties seems difficult.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.Summoned creatures(or animals converted with Animal Friend) can and will kill other animals for you with no penalty. So if you walk into a room full of diggles, animal friend one of them and sit back while it murders all its former friends and family!
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!reviving due to interest!
a new update came out today, adding new wand recipes to the game! to that I say: THANK GOD. wand lore was totally worthless skill to level up, because there were so few wands you could craft. if the next wand up didnt do anything useful for you, it was an empty level. now with new craftable wands, maybe wand lore won't suck so much...
Add me on skype! Dynamod1990Well Coral Wand is awesome...but yeah, there were too few stuff before...
Give me cute or give me...something?I kind of miss the old concept of recharging wands before they ran out but this new system must have looked more balanced to the developers. (Also much simpler)
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. One of the big problem with the old system is that there is always the chance to burn out, even if entropy is low (since that only determine chance of burnout, even low it can burn), and the remains becomes useless...at least in the new system you can reuse it...although I do have a fond memory of the old system...after all, I cleared my first Monster Zoo ever with a lot of Wand Lore skills use...

Give me cute or give me...something?I missed out on the old method, still a lot of internet info talks about entropy and recharge rates.... very confusing nowadays X_X

Add me on skype! Dynamod1990Functionally, I prefer the new system due to its simplicity, but the old system was great in one very important way: burnt-out wands were for some reason worth heaps when sold. (hundreds, usually)
the old system kinda reminded me of minecraft in a way though, you have to discover each of the recipe's on your own.
that and, you could get the "I didnt ask for this" acheivement so much more easily, now its virtually impossible...
trying my luck with an interesting build: staves, dual wielding, vampirism, necronomiconomics, astrology, alchemy, archeology. I'm wondering if alchemy is worth it though, all I have it for is crafting staves, but the best weapons in the game now have to be found.... burglary might be better.

Add me on skype! Dynamod1990That's actually a pretty standard life drain build. Get Necro up to life pact(or whatever the life drain ability there is called) and the bonus magic from the staves cancels out the magic penalty from the armor, meaning the lifedrain actually has some power behind it. Though I haven't actually tried it since the patch.
And yes, you should totally keep alchemy, if not for weapons, then for health pots. As a vampire with no method of health regen outside of combat, having healing items like health pots is crucial(not to mention invisibility pots and all that other stuff). Your other options would by Wand Lore and Coral Wands, or Psionics and Crystal healing. Though I heard they've buffed Knit Flesh in Fleshsmithing, so maybe you could try that out.
and don't bother with burglary. The free lockpick ability is now the second to last skill in the tree, its kinda useless unless you put points into it.

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!wait, what? when did that happen? its still second skill on the tree for me...
Well, right now I'm on floor 7 with this build; Shield Bearer, Berzerker Rage, Burglary, Alchemy, Archeology, Smithing, & Demonology. The focus of the build is threefold.
1: Reach 13 Health Regen through buffs. 2: Cover the basics of Survival. In this case, I have summon potential, Ao E attacks, and enough defense to block the brunt of most incoming attacks. Late game I have Teleports, Invisibility, and Do Ts to weaken foes. 3: Make a melee character that doesn't focus on any one weapon, so any magic weapons I find can be equally useful. Bezerkers Rage and Frevor of the Flagellant give me fighting power without Specializing.

Add me on skype! Dynamod1990Yeah, they've been changing it around a ton, and settled down at second skill.
Which, in my opinion, is about right. Maybe 3rd skill would be better, because it's still a really fucking easy way to get exp, but this works too.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderYeah, I use it to level up early game, its almost the first thing I get!
BTW, I edited my previous post to update how my game is going.
Add me on skype! Dynamod1990Question: What difficulty?
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI always play Going Rogue with Perma death.
Furthest I've ever gotten was floor 7, which I'm on right now. here's hoping I can get further this time. :x
Add me on skype! Dynamod1990Ah, nice.
I haven't really played with this game in a long, long time, so honestly I haven't played around with the newly balanced skill trees. But the furthest I've gotten is Floor 2.
And I do the same difficulty as you do. Because I like PAIN.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderYeah, me too ^^. If I can beat it on GR + PD, I'd be happy.
I'm worried, because I heard past floor 10, the monsters have such high critical rates that melee gets really tough. blocking and spell resist become useless.

Add me on skype! Dynamod1990I would assume that counter is your best friend, then?
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -Landstanderafaik, crits bypass counter altogether, the way its coded means that crits -always- hit, no block, no counter, no dodge.
