I still wait for the day when we just start plugging stuff into the back of our necks to do everything.

Hey, I remember playin' on something like that in a casino arcade a little under 10 years ago...

I'm perfectly fine with playing my games on a controller like I normally do, but whatever floats their boats.

Sony's making a Virtual Boy? Hopefully, it won't also be their Virtual Boy.

So rather than ripping off Nintendo's current hardware they're ripping off the stuff they hoped we'd forgotten about?

I'll need some level of tactile response and it'll be pretty underwhelming at first, but you know what? I can see it going places.

The thing about making witty signature lines is that it first needs to actually be witty.

[up] That's what I thought too.

What has the Virtual Boy to do with virtual reality anyway?

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.

Hmm, I can't decide which joke is right here:

  1. Sony would never do that without Nintendo doing it first.
  2. So will you be vulnerable to mind hacks while using it?

Misread title as "Sonic Sez virtual reality is next".

That would be weird.

@Nyarly:Well, it was a game system based on a 3D headset. This, too, would be a game system based on a 3D headset, the difference being graphical quality.

I don't understand why people would want virtual reality .-.

All I can think about is this stupid movie that's been on my mind recently, and the stupid, stupid VR game they play in that stupid, stupid movie, and the stupid, stupid, STUPID characters (the three in the back) the main guy, his sister, and his kickass girlfriend meet in that stupid, stupid, stupid game in that stupid, stupid, stupid movie. Is this stupidity the future of gaming?

Fun fact: I showed this movie at a "bad movie party" I threw once upon a time.

No technology will ruin games, only the abuse thereof. Something to keep in mind even with the most braindead hardware concepts.

I can't imagine this being all too successful. Virtual reality doesn't exactly seem to be something that be either very profitable at this point in time or easily affordable.

Exactly how far have we actually advanced into virtual reality any way?

Eh, can't see anything like this working until we have a nervous system interface. SQUIDs are OK, but we need to be able to map pretty much everything. Then, THE FUTRRRE

Virtual reality is never going to really take off until we find a way to reach the other side of the Uncanny Valley.

Not to mention its possible effects on the human brain if it becomes real enough, being unable to differentiate from the virtual and reality for example.

[up]We have a few generations of technology to go before we hit that stage. Besides we could always try sticking to stylized graphics in virtual reality.

It would be about damn time. People have been experimenting with VR technology since the 80s, it really would be time that something comes out of it.

You know, despite the fact that VR has existed for a long time, this... actually -is- innovative. Most VR games have been gimmicky arcade shooters. True, it's likely the first games for this will be the same, but once it gets popular, it could pave the way for some pretty cool ideas.

(Imagine Skyrim in VR, for example...)
