Pony Fanfiction Thread

Since the show's over and the show still hasn't done that prequel where Glimmer finds and gathers all of the inhabitants of her commune, I guess it's up to me.

Anybody want to spitball on this?

Chapter 1 of my latest story The Archmage's Last Bow, is out now.

I might make a tropes page for it once a few chapters more have been released and there's enough content to fill a page with, but for now, I'm just glad to finally release it.

Re-rewriting my story yet again and will pull down Afternoon At Canterlot again after I've written up a few chapters and am satisfied with where this version is going.

Also going to go back through my Lore entries, edit some of them and compile them publish on FiMFic too.

I'm resurrecting an old fic of mine starring two brothers, and I've been wondering about what to make the younger brother's appearance when it just occurred to me: the story stars two siblings, of whom the older, white-coated and blond-maned one becomes distant and eventually completely withdrawn while the younger one desperately tries to get him back. Should I make the younger brother a chestnut to complete it all?

Are there any fanfics about the Changelings abducting the Mane Six, the Princesses and vice versa prior to the events of To Where and Back Again?

Finally finished Fallout: Equestria! Loved it. I know there are a lot of fanfics based in the same universe; what's a good one to start with?

Murky Number Seven. A much less capable and brave protagonist that gives you another look at Fillydelphia.

I just started that one. It was a coin flip between that and Project Horizons. I decided to start with Murky because, as you said, it's another view of a place Littlepip visited, and specifically her actions in the arena.

Project Horizons is...eh. I'd avoid it. It starts out very promising but eventually devolves into straight up grimderp rather than balancing the horror of the post-apocalypse with the light-heartedness of the show like the original fic did.

Been reading some oneshots, and I think my favorite so far is Administrative Angel.

Excerpt from my in-progress draft:

I’ve finished my first draft of the first chapter of my Alt!Nyx story. It’s titled Lunyx on G Docs since the premise is a Nyx raised by Luna. The first chapter is mostly a long action-comedy scene with Trixie, Maud and Daring busting in a Nightmare cult. I’ll dm it to anyone who cares to take a look at it.

Why not post it on Google Docs on here for everybody to see?

I don't know why, but that brief scene of Zecora giving tribal tattoos to Zebrafied Kenyans in The Conversion Bureau: The Other Side of the Spectrum pleases me immensely.

Anyone here have strong opinions about Estee? She just released her new story on her version of Starlight Glimmer and it’s a doozy.

I've been well out of the loop for a long time, but even back in the day, I didn't follow many of the bigger names.

I haven't read any Estee in a while other than the blogs (and actually haven't finished Triptych yet), mainly due to having pretty much no time to spare (although I'm... less enamored of the writing style these days). But I did see this go up, and funnily enough, I thought about bringing it up if only because GOA would recognize it.

Heck, it even came up at the same time on the Fimfic thread on 4chan (I know, not the most reputable of benchmarks, but often there is some interesting fic discussion in amongst the name-calling). And while I'm not certain what you mean by a "doozy", I feel like the poster's thoughts might be running along the same lines:

Also also funnily enough, I had just brought up Triptych myself, in response to the question being raised of what pony fics we thought were most deserving of theoretical animated film or series adaptations. My first answer is actually The Flight of the Alicorn (I always thought of it whenever wishing the actual movie might have been a more ambitious or better-received story), along with a nod to The Immortal Game, but, as I had previously mentioned on a blog comment regarding potential Triptych art:

Yeah, nice to see you as well. I guess it's kind of inevitable to have gaps when this thread isn't terribly active anymore. Been a little weird to not write horse words, but I don't really have time to indulge anything with it anymore at the moment. That personal OC project I started on has been a bear where I went over if it would work in just writing. While it probably would, there's a number of scenes I decided would work better visually, and, uh, turns out my drawing skills have deteriorated (plus I was never very good at drawing humans to begin with). So that's fun.

As to the trope page, you can thank Meta for that. He basically singlehandedly put it together about 3/4 of the way through From Dusk to Night.

Oh, man, that trope page still needs some work. I reread most of the series to trope it properly, but ran out of steam partway through From Dusk to Night. The article even said the last stories were still ongoing until I edited it just now.
