@Meta: I find that I don't agree with most of the RCL's selections. They tend to favor technically competent stories that address heady ideas. The problem is, that a lot of their selections don't have the substance to back up those heady ideas.
Obviously, not all of their selections follow this template, but it's pretty common. And like you said, they tend to favor shorter pieces, so this is probably to be expected. If one likes thinkpieces and doesn't mind a lack of plot, however, the RCL will have a much higher ratio of good recommendations than they did for me.
"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."I have to fight the urge not to post that picture more often.
In other news, I finished the first draft of the latest chapter of my (slowly) ongoing story. I think I'm going to take a break and work on something else for a while once it's published to get over my writer's block.
Reaction Image RepositoryIn my experience, project hopping makes writer's block worse; it distances you from the mindset needed to write the first project, because you have to adjust to the mindset of the second project and back again.

"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."Oh wow, I enthusiastically agree with Clever about something. That doesn't happen often.
I really dislike the stories the Royal Canterlot Library post. I enjoy maybe 10% of them, on average.

I was likely fortunate to have the story I got in there well complete by the time the thing actually started up(Then again, maybe I was unlucky because it meant that there were fewer interested readers).
But, my own experience has definitely suggested they're more than willing to put up longfics, considering TCYB rivals some of the Lord of the Rings books in length.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Well, I agree with Meta. It's not that they won't post long fics. Since they have a fairly large amount of reviewers and there needs to be approvals from most of the members, it's just less likely.
Gee, thanks
@Yami: thanks for the comments. Did you have any thoughts about the story as a whole?

"The only way to truly waste an idea is to shove it where it doesn't belong."@Clever: Yeah, that's always a risk, but given that the current story has been proceeding at the pace of maybe 200 words a day for the past 2 months, taking a break won't really make it go that much slower.
Reaction Image RepositoryIt was enjoyable enough, though character studies and vague AU like that aren't my usual preference so I was a little detached.
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Hoo boy.
Would anyone be willing to take a look at the fic that I've started? I'm not even done with the first chapter yet but I think it's progressing rather well.
Oh great; now there's almost no point in writing anything.
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.Well, the thing will "only" probably be stretched out over the next 76 days, plus... let's say a 14-day buffer for things to die down after that, so you could just wait it out. I'm gonna be dumb and get my next four updates more eclipsed than usual, though.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiMind giving a link? Can't find it otherwise.
Sure thing. Hit me up.
Also, last night I had the weirdest dream: one of my old editors came back, looked at my latest chapter, and gave it a thrashing for how I haven't improved in years.
Yeah, I didn't put it up on Google Docs yet xD Was just waiting for an answer.
Here it is. Only around 1,000 words but I'd like to know how it is so far.
I'll give a look-see sometime this week.
Also, time for more feature box funsies.
I get the feeling that your story is really contrived and stupid...
Oh hey, is PH finished now then?
Yep. I doubt I'll ever finish it because eventually the darkness got to be too much for me, but it's finally done, yeah.
Cool, I should finish reading it now. It's been so long though, maybe I should just start over.
I feel bad that I kinda dropped it on the blog and thus never caught up to a point where I could give good feedback, 'cause Somber expressed interest in my feedback.
Ah well, maybe if I get back to it my feedback could be useful the next time he writes something. Who knows.
Christ, the thing has twice as many upvotes as it has views. Featured box may as well be "Project Horizons and, oh yeah, nine other stories, too."
And I just know he's going to stagger out chapter releases, too.
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.
That might just be the most accurate description of this thread I've ever seen. And a whole bunch of other threads too. I hadn't realized until this very moment that I'd been missing something in my internet-life.
