I recognized a certain problem with the trope upon visiting it, which is partially the topic in this older discussion.

Basically there are two tropes being presented. The dividing line comes down to the difference between Adaptations and Remakes. Both are related to Cultural Translation. The point is that Americanitis is adapting a work that has origins in a foreign country and it is arbitrarly changed to an American setting so that it doesn't seem foreign. Americanization is remaking something that originated in a foreign country and made for an American audience.

It sounds small, but there is a difference between remaking a foreign film for the local audience and dubbing a foreign film so that the audience doesn't think it is foreign.

Judging from the archived discussion it was split and we got Transatlantic Equivalent.

And hey, it must be that this all occurred out of people broadening the trope, right? Nobody makes a page called Americanitis and then doesn't have it be about the symptoms of localisation.

Please use the old thread. There's no reason to have two threads on the same trope.
