I'd definitely pick up the light novels. I think that this would be the first series where I picked up actual light novels, too. It feels that good.

No offense, but what Chiyuri is doing in episode 20 is kinda like Orihime. How so? Both of them are not forced by the Big Bad (Dusk Taker and Ulquiorra) into joining them, but they joined them out of their will. Because of this, everyone, except the heroes of course, thinks they have gone rogue, when in reality, they're still on the heroes' side.

By the way, they're voiced by Stephanie Sheh. When you think about it, it make sense.

What do you think of this?

[up] I think if you're referring to your post where you're complaining about Chiyu that you should just keep watching and any other comments would be spoileriffic.

Also, given that dub voices might not be decided on for months after that fact, don't try to read too much into things.

On another note is there any word on when we can expect the official translations of the novels?

[up] Not at the moment. They've got an approximate timeframe for SAO and the reading of the press release doesn't suggest that that date includes Accel World as well.

So I just checked out Yen Press's website to look for news. I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but the first novel is expected to come out in July according to this page.

[up] I'm curious how they're going to translate things, especially given what I felt were rather... odd translation choices that Viz made for the anime. I mean, sure Unlimited Neutral Field and neutral field without limits mean the same thing but the second choice seems clunky.

So info about English translations:

Barnes and Noble list the release date for the novel as July 22nd. However Yen Press's website hasn't listed a release date at all for the novels and list first volume of the manga as coming out both in July and September with the cover B&N used being used on the manga page and no cover is shown for volume one of the novels.

So basically we have a cover for either the manga or novel (no clue which due to conflicting sources) and no reliable release date for anything.

Given that Yen Press has both the manga and the novels, and their cover for the SAO novel is the same as in Japan, it's a safe assumption that the cover B&N has is the manga cover. In which case either the novel's release date got leaked or B&N simply made a mistake out of confusion.

Today is the day volume one of the novels is released in English. Turns out the cover Barnes and Noble has online is the right one. I just got back with my own copy. It's very nicely done though looking at the wiki I can't see why the moved all the colored images to the front of the book rather than place them throughout the book like they did for the black and white images.

Fan translation websites lead me to believe that they're all at the front of the book in Japan as well. I don't get it either.

You're right. Glancing at the wiki again I was misinterpreting things.

That said I'm two chapters in and I'm not very fond of Kuroyukihime here. Maybe I'm just not remembering things correctly but the way things are translated makes her come across as a bit condescending what with the way she phrases things. I might need to rewatch some of the anime though to rejog my memory of its portrayal of her.

Sorry to double post but volume four's official translation came out two days ago. For those of you reading them how do you feel about the translation itself? Personally I don't mind it though some of their translations take a bit to get used to.

Good to hear it's at least decent.

I buy my anime/manga/LNs in large waves when I have a lot of cash on hand and a sale is ongoing, so I don't have any of them yet.

Finally! I'd heard that they've wanted to make this for years but that Love Live! kept getting in the way of that. I wonder how many of the novels it'll cover.

Almost forgot to include the news article for it. [1]

It seems its going to be a new original anime but there may be more to it. Will have to wait and see.

So it might not be a second season but something original? That's cool too as it means less spoilers for novel readers and it shows that Accel World has a good enough premise that it can stand on its own without adapting anything.

Alongside the confirmation of Kizumonogatari, this is the best news I've heard all day. I don't mind an original plot as long as the characters are returning.

New Accel World. I'm quite excited. And just when I was thinking about getting back to reading that Accel World spin-off manga (Dural-Magisa Garden).smile

...Speaking of, I started Accel World with the first chapters of the manga, then I watched the anime.

[up] Same here, and the manga designs just looked weird when I came back to them afterwards. Except maybe Crow's wings.

It still makes me laugh that the manga condensed the entire Dusk Taker arc into a single chapter of flashbacks.

[up][up]I'd say read Accel World Dural anyway. It's wonderful and Chiaki X Rirya is OTP!

The manga adaptation of Accel World is fairly nice in my opinion though the art is probably its biggest weakness. It isn't bad just not great. Especially in comparison with Ayato Sasakura's work for Dural-Magisa Garden or the anime's visuals. Actually, I'd probably say the same thing about the Novel's illustrations by hima.
