Duke Nukem Forever review controversy

It gets darker.

Things have gotten a little blacker over the reviews of Duke Nukem Forever. Despite 2K Games firing The Redner Group for their tweet threatening to punish reviewers who gave the game vitriolic reviews, Eurogamer is stating that they indeed have been 'blacklisted' for their scathing review of Forever by 2K Games.

Eurogamer's Tom Bramwell tweeted: "I feel sorry for @The Redner Group today. We are blacklisted by @2KGames and it seems to be standard practice."

So, did Jim Redner give 2K Games the opening they needed to scapegoat the blacklisting of reviewers who negatively reviewed Forever? Was Redner parroting on Twitter what was told to him by 2K Games, and mistakenly out of anger made it public? Or is Bramwell paranoid?

This entire fiasco is reminiscient of the Game Spot/Kane & Lynch controversy of a few years ago.

Not this sort of bullshit again.

Gotta love it when you don't know who's paying for the review.

IMHO, things like this are only going to make 'official' reviews more and more obsolete as more people turn to honest opinions at Gamefaqs and Amazon.

Yeah, but even then, you got people who post 1-star reviews 6 months before the game came out because there was an Art Shift or something stupid like that.

Why people tend to believe that reviews are the "final judgment"?

Bottom line: Fuck reviews. They can't be trusted, no matter who writes it.

I personally stopped caring about reviewers after the whole "Sonic Unleashed reviews" by IGN

I say fuck review scores. If you actually listen to what the people have written down you'll get a better feeling for it beyond a little number arbitrarily slapped on the end.

Yahtzee's reviews are the best reviews, cuz he either says they're good or bad.

Mostly bad, though.

However, 2K isn't upset by the review SCORES so much as they are the vitriolic nature. So the number is irrelevant in this case. I think they just don't like being compared to a "racist uncle".

Well what did they expect releasing a game like that? Hugs and kisses all around?

Not EVERYONE reviewed DNF like that.

Strategy Informer, for example, gave it a 7/10, and didn't act like 2K raped their childhood.

Sometimes, people get pissed off when you act like you're an evil person who shat on their Rice Krispies.

Some people mostly expected....... modern shooter mechanincs, mostly of them are from COD

But the problem listed seems to be (correctly) that it is too much like Co D (regenerating health, 2 weapons)

Game FA Qs only allows reviews after a game has been released, and full reviews can only be posted some time afterwards.

Honestly, who cares about Duke Nukem anyway? It's had 14 years to be finished and for it to come out like this...honestly, I'm not even surprised at the poor reception. Not one bit.

Well, they started over completely several times...

I am surprised at all of the complaints of "Offended". As if people were surprised that Duke Nukem is offensive.

I like how one of the most disappointing games of the year has close to a 50. The escapist ripped it to shit and still gave it two stars.

That's what bugs the crap out of me. Duke Nukem? Offensive? WHY IS THAT A SURPRISE TO PEOPLE
